BC: Our First Place

FC: 103 Lincoln Our house and the little bit of renovations we did... | The fellow that owns his own home is always just coming out of a hardware store. ~Frank McKinney Hubbard

First up: The Bathroom | Everything had to go...

 And demo begins...

Our options for the shower were dynamite or shower surround

 Looking better...

Ta Da! Now we can finally shower...

Master Bedroom: Before | Nice wallpaper huh?

 Master Bedroom: After

 Dining Room: Before

 During...

 ...And After!

And then we move on to the living room...big mirror, green carpet and more wallpaper... | Steph draws up some floor plans

Big mirror = Big pain | Chris plans the furniture layout

 Peeling Party Anyone?

Or maybe a painting party instead.

Crown molding seemed like a good idea at the time... | ...little did we know what a pain it would be.!

But the end result was so worth it!

Moving on into the sunroom | The Matt Foote Honorary Corner

Updated the gold curtains | A major improvement

 Hallway/ Stairs

Steph tries to figure out where to start...

Well well, what do we have here? Wood paneling UNDER the wallpaper??

 Last Step: Replacing the carpet

The Office | Oh look, more wallpaper...

 Seven layers later...

The Guest Room | While Chris is gone to the Dominican Republic, Melissa decides to tackle the guest room

Five layers on three of the walls and three layers plus wood paneling on the other | The first red was a little too bright...

The Third Floor aka Melissa's office | Much the same...just a lot more stuff!

So as we are creating our own dust inside, our street, driveway and front lawn are being dug up (this continued ALL SUMMER and most of fall)

A look at the outside before:

So for the first summer, we just tried to maintain the jungle of weeds in the backyard

Slowly our street began to look like a street again and not a war zone | The huge pine and a bunch of stumps were removed the following spring

Spring 2010: The Backyard | First up: New Fence and Rose Garden | Hands down the best investment EVER: The Sawzall | Killian was helpful, as usual

As Chris worked away hauling bricks, sawing down old fence and digging holes, Michael and Melissa transformed the side into a rose garden

 I hope it stays!

And it's up!! | With Chris' headlamp there was no need to quit at dark!

With the fence in place, Miguel The Gardener was able to work his magic

June 2010: We began the biggest project of all: The Kitchen

Day 1: DEMO | Dad taking out the first piece...

 Quite a successful first day...

 Basement/Hall Before

Looks sturdy, let's move the steps!

Stairs moved: Check! | Will someone please pay attention to me?

Next up, closing up old doorway, leveling floor and making new doorway

Yes, this is how we had to lock the door | A million uses for duct tape... | Going...going...GONE

Making the ceiling all one level. Seemed like a good idea.

The house was a mess all summer | Had to get creative with dining | Closed up the small window in the back, reshingled the outside and painted! Like it was never there...

We widened the doorway to the dining room | Will someone PLEASE play with me??

Framing out half bath and closet

Getting rid of the old cabinets. We were not sorry to see them go | Found some super old chocolate chips. Cookies anyone?

Getting rid of the old insulation, putting up new insulation, a new back door, new steps and an outside light. Whew.

Finally, after two months of demolition and removing EVERYthing..we started putting it back together.

 Let there be light!

Dad secures the final piece... | ...and the taping and mudding begin. | It starts to look like a room again, instead of a disaster zone!

Leveling out the floor and painting!

With the floor all one level, Steph goes to town on the new floor.

It's like it was never there... | Mixing up the grout

The cabinets are here!! | We use Mom and Dad's old sink so we can finally have water again!

We have a bathroom! | And doors! | And a microwave!! | Anybody want to play with me yet?

Steph installs the backsplash | Chris puts up the closet organizer

And finally, after months of blood, sweat and tears...the kitchen is finished.

New stairs and walls in the basement | Just a few more projects...

Spring 2011: Time to tackle the front of the house

Once again, Miguel works his magic.

And...let's build a deck while we're at it! | Seriously guys? Another project??

We wasted no time to start using it!

We had the side backyard sodded to make a bigger lawn | Adding railings...not as easy as it looks.

And the finished product: | Home Sweet Home
