1: 2004 - An Overview In 2004 Joel finished Kindergarten and started Grade 1 at Sainte Marguerite-Bourgeoys. With only one year of French schooling behind him, Joel is now fluent and his reading is coming along quite well. During the year Joel learned to ride a two-wheeler and to rollerblade. He played outdoor soccer in the spring, took swimming lessons and gymnastics, and started his first year in Scouts as a Beaver in the fall. Danielle started pre-school in the fall of 2004, attending a French Immersion program at Pommes de Reinette pre-school two mornings a week. When at home, Danielle enjoyed crafts, playing with her dolls, dressing up and having play-dates with her school or neighborhood friends. She also enjoyed swimming lessons and gymnastics and spent much of her spare time singing. If she wasn’t singing a song she’d learned, you can bet she’d have made one up spontaneously. Juliette continued to enjoy being at home, volunteering at the schools and taking time for a regular workout at the gym, or just spending time with the kids. Wayne continued working at Tesco, playing volleyball on Monday nights and using Juliette’s project plans as the perfect reason to buy new tools. Early July saw us spend some time in Gravelbourg, returning home for a few weeks before making a trip to Marean Lake in August. Despite unseasonably cold weather we took a boat ride in the rain and enjoyed using the cabin fireplace. On our way back we stopped in Humboldt for a visit, taking a tour of the Hilbert honey farm operations and watching Grandpa fly one of his RC planes, getting a first hand look at the work he would have for later in the year! To end 2004, we began some renovations to our main floor with new floor tile and a refurbished mantle. Christmas kept us close to home with Wayne’s family and Juliette’s mom joining us for the festivities in Calgary, followed by spending New Year's in Red Deer with the Lorrain's.

When we made it to the living room window used to install the air conditioner and replaced it with the original sliding window panes, Joel and Danielle made an exciting discovery - it was just like a drive-through window! Much time was subsequently spent taking and handing out imaginary food orders. "Would you like fries with that?"
