Hannah's b-day is on Valentines Day. This year we started the day off w/ heart pancakes (requested by the birthday girl). Then Hannah wanted to go to Freestone Park & ride the train. We had a picnic lunch catered by good ol' Wendy's and Jake splurged and got a bunch of tickets for the kiddos to ride the train, the merry-go-round, & the "waver-runner". Hannah got to ride the "wave-runner" an extra time all by herself. (we only had two tickets left) She thought she was SO cool, and giggled the whole ride. Luckily Cade wasn't offended...he just watched her giggle & laughed along too. | A friend of mine told me that her mom always made them a Valentines dinner where everything was pink or red. I ran the idea by Hannah & she thought that it sounded great, so we did it. It looked disgusting, It tasted fine as long as you closed you eyes & thought of what it was supposed to look like. It was interesting & fun, but I don't think we'll carry on the tradition. It makes me gag every time I look at the picture. FYI-its, Ham, Potatoes, biscuits, stuffing-which looked like raw ground beef- & pickled beets-which we do like. I made Hannah a very poorly decorated, Red Velvet Cake (more red...GAG!) and the Nelsons stopped by & celebrated with us for a bit. It was a very fun day! I just can't believe that Hannah is 5! Ahhh, it's killing me -Mikelle written February 16th, 2009 | Hannah's 5th Birthday!

Pennsylvania, New Jersey, & New York written February 22, 2009 We covered 3 states in 3 days and we are feeling it! My feet are seriously broken. Not sure what I did to them? They didn't hurt till a day after New York? Jake says it's because the tennis shoes I wore were "style over comfort". Maybe?? :) Anyway...We had a lot of fun... but it feels SO good to be home! Here is our trip recap: Day 1: We flew into Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After we got to our hotel we went and ate at the nearest restaurant. It was called "Friendly's" It was a bit like Village Inn. Day 2: Jakes Interview: I forgot that I would have to check out of the hotel at noon(I was planning on staying at the hotel till after Jake's interview which was supposed to end around 2pm) whoops! so I had to tag along. I spotted a Mall down the street from the Optometry school & I told Jake I would go there for a few hours to waste some time, then just sit in the parking lot & read. I hadn't eaten breakfast yet so I stopped by a grocery store for a bagel & a banana. When I went in I quickly realized that I was the ONLY white person in the store. Please don't get me wrong, I am in no way racist, I just have never been in that situation before. It was a strange, overwhelming feeling. Jake says I'm rude, but I tried to explain that it could have been a "Food City", here in AZ, full of Mexicans(who I couldn't even understand)...and I would have felt right at home:) This was just out of my element & I'm not sure if it was just my imagination, but I swear everyone in the store was staring at me. I got my bagel & banana, asked for help to find the cream cheese, & was friendly with the check out girl(who could have cared less to talk to a stupid, blonde, white girl:). After that experience I wasn't so sure I wanted to go hang out at the mall at all. | Good News: Jake got his first invitation for an interview to Optometry school!!! It is in Pennsylvania, which is not our first choice, BUT it's an interview!!! Woohoo! We are very excited. We fly out this week and after the interview we are going to drive the hour & 1/2 to New Jersey and stay the night. The next day we will take the subway/train in to New York City!!! I am VERY excited!!! I've never been farther east than Colorado, YAY! My little bro. Jeff served his mission in NYC, so he came over & made us up an itinerary, complete w/ maps, of how best to cover all the sites in Manhattan in only one day... including his favorite pizza place... & he gave us a bunch of tips! THANKS JEFFY!! I hate to leave the kids, I'm really not good at it, but I am excited to have the experience. We have to pay the money to fly there anyway, why not enjoy it, right?!!! It should be fun! -Mikelle written Feb. 16th

day 2 cont... I MADE myself go into the Burlington coat factory and stayed in there for as long as I could(and there was ONE little old white lady in there!!) I decided that I was done with the mall & went back to the school's parking lot & spent 3 1/2 hours reading Harry Potter 7. After Jake's interview, which went really well(He is WAY more impressed with PA than I am, and would love it if we went there) we drove an hour & 20 mins. to New Jersey to stay the night & await our day of fun in NYC! Day 3: NEW YORK CITY!! On Friday morning we caught the train that goes into NYC. It took about 30 minutes & let us off at Penn Station. We were worried that we wouldn't have enough time to get to all the sites we had planned, but we did and had time to spare! It is amazing how quickly the subways get you around town. NYC was really fun to visit, but I am glad that I don't have to live there. Too many people, too fast, and busy.We had a hard time finding the temple. We knew it was across the street from Juilliard, so we asked a doorman if he knew where Juilliard was.(It was supposed to be on that street) He said "no", so Jake says, "we are actually looking for the Mormon temple, do you know where that is?" The guy says, "Of course I do!" and points out the angel Moroni on the building for us. We thought that it was funny that he didn't know where Juiliard was, but knew the Mormon temple.

Forest Grove, OR | But, after I thought about it for a while, I figured I didn't really want to hobble along beside him for 10 hours (plus, I ALWAYS tend to talk too much in situations like that:) So, I stayed at the hotel. I got up and ironed his shirt/suit for him & wished him good luck and then I got back in bed and slept in, watched TV, and I got to rest my feet. Jake felt his interview went well and he loved the school so hopefully in a week or two we will know if they want us! | While we were in OR, we traveled out to Cannon Beach, and explored the area. It was so beautiful and green! Forest Grove is a small town, surrounded by rolling green hills, farmland, and berry country. I would LOVE to live there! Mikelle~ Mar 4 2009 | This last weekend Jake had his final interview to Optometry school! It was in Forest Grove, Oregon which is approx. 1 hour south of Portland in northern Oregon. We stayed in Beaverton which is pretty much the outskirts of Portland. We flew in late Thursday night and Jake got up at 5:45 to be at his interview at 7:45. His interview was from 8 am to 6 pm. That's right, a whole 10 hours!!! Spouses were invited to the interview day, but my poor feet were STILL killing me from NY and Jake said, "are you going to be walking like that at the interview?" (he wasn't being rude, just making fun of me a bit:)

Mar 13th 2009: We found out today...Jake got accepted to Pacific University in Forest Grove, OREGON!!! Woohooo! YaY! Oh YEah, Oh Yeah! Woooo-eeeeee! So, I'm a LITTLE excited(not to mention relieved!!) Can you tell? :) So after what seemed like the LONGEST 2 weeks of our life, Jake got a call today from the "secratary to the dean", who also happens to be the nicest lady ever, and she told him the good news! We couldn't be happier!! Now I don't have to worry about sending Hannah (my first born child) to school in Philli...YAY! We also are very excited because some really good friends of ours, the NELSON's, from our old Adobe Ward, were accepted to the same school! It will be SO nice to head off to school with friends! Ahhh, I feel like a million pounds have been lifted off of me today...I can't even imagine what Jake feels like. He's sleeping like a baby(which he hasn't done for days now!) and I'm up at 1:22 am mopping the floor, and sending emails, and writing on our blog...caz I was too excited to sleep:) YAY!!

Cade turns 3! | Cade turned 3 on the March 13th! I can't believe he's already 3! Jake's Mom, Sister, and 3 of Cade's cousins came into town to help celebrate his birthday and hang with us for a while. We also had Jenna & Reagan (our friends kids) staying w/ us while their parents were out of town- so we had quite the little party! He had a ton of fun! Cade is OBSESSED w/ Scooby Doo! So of course he wanted a "Scooby Doo" cake. I looked at a couple stores to see if they had one, googled how to make one, and then I ultimately chose to go the lazy, cheap route and got him a scooby doo candle:) I also let him pick out 2 other candles since he was three. He chose Spiderman, & Lightening McQueen. When we asked Cade what he wanted for his birthday he would just say, "A Flashlight". That's easy enough! So, we let him pick one out a Walmart. Luckily they had some "kid" ones. He chose a "Cars" flashlight! Now he wants us to turn off the lights all the time so he can play with it:) We also bought him a Scooby Doo DVD!

EASTER | happy | Spring Time

Some Random stuff from April & May 2009: The kids love to go out an put coins on the railroad track with Jake. They go out later and collect their smashed coins! Hannah & Cade play together so well. I caught them playing in the van one day. They love to build forts. And they are just the best of buds (proof above, I love that pic, it makes me so happy). We also visited my mom's grave for the first time. I am not the biggest fan of going to her grave. She isn't there, I know where she is, so I sort of see no point in it. Besides making sure it still looks nice and is kept up (but that is still my grandma & dad's responsibility at this point) Jake hadn't seen my mom's grave either and we've been married for 7 years, and about to move out of state, so I guess it was about time:) Also, the kids love riding around the block on Grandpa Bailey's scooter with him. I think it is the highlight of Grandpa's whole week when we visit. I love seeing him with those kids. I am glad we got these pictures. We are sure going to miss them.

Moved to Forest Grove June 2009 | Welcome Home!

We love life in Forest Grove so far! We are so spoiled to have our good friends, the Nelson's, here with us. I bet they get sick of seeing our stinkin' faces all the time, but it has been great to have them around. The kids play outside, and ride bikes constantly. We have them in swimming lessons. They are both doing great, though Hannah took a while to warm up to it, literally, she was freezing in the pool and we had to go buy her a wetsuit! Silly AZ girl. We went to the zoo (pic on bottom to the left) We went to a u-pick farm called Dykes Peachy Pig Farm. We picked all kinds of berries and cherries to our hearts content, and ate them as we went. (allowed) It is beautiful here!

 Cannon Beach

 Oceanside | Long Beach, WA

We had a BBQ at Parkview Apts with friends and then lit off our own fireworks in the street that night.
