My three biological sisters are my closest friends and I hope a least one of them becomes a Pi Phi one day.

10: Our House Director: MJ | MJ is the most kind and caring House "Mom" you could imagine! She lives on the first floor of the house and treats all Pi Phi's like her own daughters. MJ's real name is Barbara, but everyone at Pi Phi calls her MJ (which stands for Mama Jaros.
11: Our Chapter House! Ohio Beta | Our chapter house is home to many sisters. It is located in the heart of the Greek community at 1845 Indianola Avenue. The house sleeps anywhere from 55-60 women.
12: Formal Recruitment 2011 | Our recruitment process includes 4 rounds. Round One was held at the Ohio Union. We shared basic info about our Chapter and fun facts about ourselves. This round lasted 15 minutes. Round Two was house tour round. Different rooms of our house had different themes such as buckeye room, sisterhood room, philanthropy room, etc. Third Round was philanthropy round. We had a mad-hatter tea party and colored book plates. Round Four was preference round and we had a pearl ceremony. We also watched a slideshow/video. 14: New Member Program New Members had weekly meetings with the New Member Coordinator. This year, they were held on Sunday night at 8pm. New Members learned about the history, founders, policies and standards, and activities of Pi Beta Phi. They were given a written quiz at the end of the New Member Period. New members were given a handbook to keep throughout their Pi Phi years.
15: Inspiration Week | The week before initiation, the entire Chapter took part in activities and ceremonies. The new members had a sleepover in our finished basement the night before initiation. We had a candle passing ceremony in which every member was given the opportunity to reflect on their Pi Phi experience and offer words of wisdom to the new members. The chapter made an extra effort to dress nice for class during I-Week. Following initiation, all initiates and alumnae in attendance had a delicious brunch together in the dining room made by our chef Ivory. New initiates were given gifts with Pi Phi's letters from their big sisters and guardian angels. Each member of the house wrote a note to each new member to congratulate them on Initiation.
16: Scholarship Programming | Scholarship dinner: members wore specific colors to Chapter Dinner based on Dean's List, 4.0 GPA and academic goal sheet achievement. They were recognized during the Chapter Meeting. | Skippy Jar: If a member has not skipped a class all week, she may put her name in the skippy jar. One name is drawn each week and that girl recieves a small gift or gift card. | Study Bucks: Sisters are asked to record their study hours. Each hour earns one study buck. Bucks can be used in a silent auction at the end of the quarter to win gift cards to places such as Starbucks and Coldstone.
17: Scholarship awards were presented at Founder's Day. Heather Miller, a member of the Winter '10 Class, won 5 awards! | Rachel Reddish, Sarah Sublett, Morgan Brocious and Steph Rosen (all Winter '09 class) at Founders Day Luncheon
18: Fraternity Heritage | The fraternity heritage topic for this quarter was Conventions and Awards. VP FD Ellen presented various lessons on these topics. She read lessons aloud at chapter meetings. Lauren O'Brien, former attendee of Convention, talked about her experience there. Ellen also made a crossword puzzle for the chapter to fill out.
19: Inspiration Week Cookie Shine! | I-Week Cookie Shine is a very fun way to show the new members the traditions of Pi Beta Phi. We held the cookie shine in our basement. Our Chapter used a sheet that is embroidered with the names and years of graduated Pi Phi's. We spread candy and cookies all over the floor, and had the new girls sit across from each other.
20: Founder's Day-May 1, 2011 | Founder's Day was held at the Ohio Union with the Columbus Alum Club. Lauren Kemp (Winter '09 class) was the chair and presented the founders. Coffeehouse sang several songs. Awards were given out by Chapter President Kristen Drevna. Seniors were recognized and participated in the Loving Cup Ceremony.
21: PARENTS WEEKEND | Parents Weekend was held May 14th and 15th. We had a cookout on our front porch on Saturday night. We had a brunch and parent cookie shine the following morning. | Hanna Klein (Winter '10) and her mother, Ohio Beta Pi Phi Alum Liz Klein, on the front porch of our house.
22: Philanthropy: Pi Night Pi night was held spring quarter. We set up our angel board on our front lawn. We sold pies for $3 and pizza slices for $2. All proceeds went to First Book. Almost every member was pied in the face! The event went from 11pm-3am. 23: All members of Ohio Beta attended the 2011 Race for the Cure Columbus. Breast cancer research has been adopted as our local philanthropy. The race was held in downtown Columbus and nearly 50,000 people participated. | Pi Phi's attended several other sororities philanthropy events. A favorite among Pi Phi's is Kappa Kappa Gamma Dog Night, where Kappa's serve hot dogs and soda at their house. Sisters also participated in Pike Powderpuff Football, and The Phi Psi Open Tennis Tournament.
24: Rock The Block | 17 Pi Phi's volunteered as Site Leaders at this years Rock The Block Community Service project. Rock the Block took place during Greek week and was a Greek community-wide service event to better the Columbus and OSU campus community. 25: Values Programming | Angel of the Month: Every month a special angel is awarded for her outstanding leadership outside of our chapter. In March, MaryEmily Hearons was awarded Angel of the Month for her week long trip with Habitat for Humanity. | MaryEmily Hearons (Winter '10) in Birmingham, AL with Habitat for Humanity. | Values Bucket: A bucket is passed around at chapter every week and girls have the opportunity to write down the name of a sister who has demonstrated one of Pi Phi's values that week. The names are read aloud once a quarter and recognized by the chapter.
26: Senior Programming | Close to graduation, the chapter held a candle passing ceremony for the senior class. They each shared their wisdom and advice with the rest of the chapter. The ceremony took place in the basement. Afterwards we had a cookie shine and the seniors did an activity together. 27: Important Visitors We had two important visitors for this part of the school year. LDC Sarah Mitchell came the first week back to school after winter break to help us prepare for formal recruitment. Something fun we did with Sarah was watch the Buckeyes play in the Sugar Bowl Game. In the middle of April, Leisa Lowry came for the Something of Value conference offered through OSU. A group of girls took Leisa out to dinner and to our favorite ice cream place!
28: Campus Life | OSU President: E. Gordon Gee Athletics: Football team won the Sugar Bowl in January Panhellenic Association: sponsored the GO Conference in Cleveland, OH Greek Week: The theme was Living The Legacy, we were paired with Kappa Sigma and Phi Kappa Theta, we participated in a Blood Drive, our Dance Team placed fourth at the Variety Show and the theme was Dreams and Nightmares, social themes were America and Dress to Impress Winter Formal: held at the River Club, we had a sit down dinner and presented fun awards to each other. | Elizabeth Garabedian, Libby Seguin, Jess Bajas, Caroline Manahan, Kaitlin Manahan, and Allura Fernandez getting ready for the Variety Show!
29: Greek Advisor: Tyler Young from the office of Sorority and Fraternity Life The other groups on campus are IFC, NPHC, and MCGC. | Intramural Sports: Sophomore Pi Phi (Winter '10 member) Justina Owens played club basketball for OSU. | Randi Polster, Ellen Saridakis, Brittany Fleming and Morgan Glaze sit in the Pi Phi Football Block. | Chelsea Wiley, Kristen Drevna, Erin Riley and Veronica Cole met Pres. Gee at the Union during an informal recruitment event.
30: GREEK AWARDS: Pi Phi won the Excellence in Safety, Health and Wellness award for our Ladder of Risk event hosted in the winter and our Continue to Fight cancer event hosted in the fall. | Pi Phi won a Collaboration Award with Phi Gamma Delta and Alpha Xi Delta from the Ohio Union Student Organization for our Continue to Fight awareness event. | PI PHI AWARDS: We won the spirit award and achieved the Pi Society for our academic achievement.
31: Convention 2011 Chapter President Kristen Drevna and sophomore Amelia Eberlein attended Convention in Florida. Kristen reported that convention was packed with events and ceremonies, including an initiation. She also said there were 10 different conferences to pick from and that it was great to meet other Pi Phi's. Kristen's roommate was from Southern Methodist University in Texas and they shared a lot in common. | Kristen Drevna and Amelia Eberlein--2011 Convention attendees. | Alumnae Activites: We hosted an "AAC Retirement Party" for Marg Wittich and Sally Koening. We invited them to dinner and presented them with a small gift to thank them for their dedication.
