1: She was born April 13th 1909. She was an author of novels and short stories about the American South. Her mother was a school teacher and taught her to enjoy reading at an early age. | Eudora Welty | She studied at Mississippi State College for Women from 1925 to 1927. Then the University of Wisconsin, to major in English and in 1929, after receiving her bachelor of arts degree, she transferred to Columbia University Graduate School of Business in New York to study advertising. | After taking a 15 year break from writing to take care of her sick family, she began to write again in 1966. She received the Pulitzer Prize for one of her short stories. | Her career first sparked when her first published story "Death of a Traveling Salesman" was seen in the magazine Manuscript.

6: Setting | -The story mainly takes place on the path that Phoenix is walking down. It also takes in the city, and in the doctors office. | -The month is December, on a bright, frozen day in the early morning. | -When Phoenix walks into town, the streets are busy with shoppers for Christmas.
7: Conflict | The conflict is external, because Phoenix is having to go through different things to try to get to the city, such as getting stuck on the bushes, being scared by the "ghost" and the man who pointed the gun at her.

9: Theme | The message this story reveals is that family is more important to Phoenix than anything else, and she would do anything for her grandson.
