FC: The ABCs of Heather and Steve

 Aquarium

One of the first dates that Steve and I went on was to the Baltimore Aquarium with my sister and a friend of mine (Diana). We went to the Dolphin show and Steve insisted on sitting in the front row. After the show was over, all of us were soaking wet, but we were all smiles! This was the beginning of a friendship that later grew into love. ~Heather, July 2009~

 Buttonwood Beach

One of the items on my bucket list was to ride/drive a boat. So during the summer of '09 we decided to do so at my boss's property on the Chesapeake Bay. George took Heather and I out on his speedboat and ended up going tubing for my first time as well. Tubing was a TON of fun, but when you fly into a turn and can't hold on any longer it hurts getting thrashed into the water. But overall, well worth it! ~Steve, Summer 2009~

 Cruise

During Spring Break in 2010, Steve wanted to surprise me with a vacation/road trip for the two of us. He met me outside of the school at 4:00 and we set off on a 16 hour road trip to Florida. When we reached Ft. Lauderdale, Steve told me to pick the ride side to the airport or the left side to the cruise. He made a left turn and we were off to the ship! We went on a 7 day cruise to the Western Caribbean. ~Heather, March 2010~

 Washington D.C.

While living in Virginia, my friends and I were about a 45 minute train ride outside of D.C. We spent almost every weekend in D.C. visiting the monuments, attending Cherry Blossom Festivals, and various other reasons during the tear. After I met Steve,we would go down there regularly, and would visit D.C. after I had moved back to Pennsylvania. ~Heather~

 East High School

Steve and I graduated from East High School in 2003. Our five year reunion came around Thanksgiving 2008, and Steve and were both reluctant to attend. We were both persuaded by friends to go anyway. In the back of my mind I was really hoping to see him, but unsure of what I would say if I did. A friend came over with me to talk to him, and instantly I felt like I had been talking to him for years. There was a sense of comfort with him that I had not felt with anyone before. Several months later, I got a phone call from Steve asking to stop by at my apartment in Virginia. And after that we talked nightly and made the drive every weekend to see each other. ~Heather, November 2008~

 Florida

In the summer of 2010, Steve and I attended my cousin Holly's wedding in Florida. Along with the wedding, we also went to visit my sister who was completing an internship in that area of Florida. According to my sister it had not rained the entire summer until we arrived...and then it rained every day. Although we didn't get to enjoy the sunny weather as planned, we still enjoyed our mini getaway together. ~Heather, July 2010~

 Great Falls, VA

Hiking anyone? Heather and I both enjoy the outdoors so we went to Great Falls, VA which has great views of rushing water and gentle trails perfect for hiking. Monica and her husband, Ben, Kelly, Heather, and I all enjoyed a picnic along the way. Great Falls was one of the many places we enjoyed hiking together. ~Steve, July 2009~

 Hilton Head, SC

Every year my family takes a vacation together with family friends down to Hilton Head, SC. The first year that Steve came down with us was the summer of 2010. We had a wedding that we had gone to near NY and drove down to SC the Sunday morning afterwards. We didn't get in until 2am the following morning after driving nonstop. Early Monday morning I got a phone call for a job interview back in PA. We immediately booked a flight back home for Tuesday morning. After several connecting flights and an interview, and then flights back, we arrived back to SC Tuesday night. After the craziness of that adventure, we swore we wouldn't do that again. So in 2011, we enjoyed every minute of our Hilton Head vacation. ~Heather, August 2010 and 2011~

 I DO!!!

Now that Steve and I have finally said, “I DO!” we plan on starting a beautiful life together. We recently bought a house in Downingtown, which we will officially move in after the wedding. These past few months have been leading up to this wonderful night and we are so blessed to have our family and friends be a part of our special day! ~Heather, November 2011~

 Jim Brickman

Around December 2010, Heather had surprised me with an evening at Shippensburg University. She wouldn’t tell me what we were doing, so I began to think of various events that she could surprise me with. I was stumped! After arriving at Shippensburg, we walked over to some building where there were masses of other people at the doors. Upon nearing the doors I still couldn’t tell what we were doing until we actually got inside which I then saw signs for Jim Brickman. His Christmas Concert was the best concert I’ve been to, but that also could be because he’s one of my favorite artists/pianists. Jim Brickman plays the piano and often accompanies other famous singers. ~Steve, December 2010~

 Kenny Chesney

Steve and I both enjoy country music. One of the first concerts that Steve and I attended together was down at the Nissan Center in Virginia. We went to the concert with some of my friends from school. Kenny Chesney definitely knew how to put on a good concert! I am sure that we will back to see another one of his concerts in the future! ~Heather, Summer 2009~

 Love Park

Being close to Philadelphia and the many sites to be seen, we wanted a few pictures in front of the LOVE sign in Philadelphia. Before we went to dinner at the Philadelphia Hard Rock, we decided to take a couple cute pictures at the park. One of these pictures almost made it on our wedding invitation. ~Steve, 2009~

 Manassas

After my first year of teaching in Southern Virginia, I moved up to Northern Virginia to Manassas. There, I taught for two fabulous years with people who have become my best friends. After moving to Pennsylvania, I felt like a part of me was still left behind. But I know that I will always cherish the memories that were made, and the friendships that will last for a lifetime. Manassas is still, and will always be, considered my “home away from home”. ~Heather, June 2008-June 2010~

 Niagara Falls

Heather told me that the last time she had been to Niagara Falls was when she was a kid with her family. Well, the little kid in me decided we should take the road trip and make it happen! After stopping at a concert on Friday night, Saturday we went to Corning, NY to see the Corning Factory which was on our way to Niagara Falls. After the short stop we continued on our way and finally reached the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Of course being in December this trip was FRIGID! Despite the cold temperatures, the falls are always an amazing site to see. On the Canadian side we walked behind the falls, and then had dinner in the Skylon Tower. What is nice about the Skylon Tower was the revolving restaurant. By the time we finished our meal, we had seen all sides of the falls. ~Steve, December 2010~

 Outdoors

Steve and I both enjoy being outdoors. Whether it is playing an outdoor sport, watching a baseball game, or going for a walk, we enjoy the scenery that can be found. We enjoy taking walks and hikes up mountains. Steve enjoys creating his own walkways through the woods. And most of the time we have more fun than if we had stayed on the beaten path! ~Heather~

 Phillies

Steve and I both enjoy watching the Phillies game, and enjoy it more when we see it live! The first Phillies game we went to was with my sister and her friends. We set up games in the parking lot and had a grill for some grub! We had so much fun, we took my mom and Joe to a game a few days later! We have been there a few times since with his parents and his friends. And of course, we will be going back for more! ~July, 2010~

 Question of a lifetime

Ever since I was a kid I imagined a little scavenger hunt of important places in life as my way to propose to my future wife. As you read the other stories you will see this is evident. Of course we couldn’t send Heather on a wild goose chase to everywhere we’ve been, so I chose the closest places to us. The last stop was the Downingtown train Trestle over Rt 322 in Downingtown. I gave Heather a specific time to be there, and to bring the CD I had made earlier that morning. After hearing the car door close from up on the trestle I hid by the railing but close enough that I could hear Heather come by. When she came nearby, she put the CD into my laptop and played our song by Taylor Swift, “Today Was A Fairytale”. After hearing this song, I came out of hiding, and walked over to her and wiped away a few tears from her face, and then got down on one knee and asked her for hand in marriage and she of course said “YES”! ~Steve, December 25th 2010~

 Richmond NASCAR Race

While living in Virginia, my roommate Monica was dating her now husband, Ben. Ben would come over and watch NASCAR on Sunday afternoons while Monica and I would work on lesson plans. We decided to make a trip to Richmond International to see a live race. Steve, Ben, Monica and I drove down early in the morning to the stadium. The race was delayed due to rain, but eventually began. We looked so cool wearing the earplugs and the race was so exciting we actually fell asleep. All in all, it was an eventful experience and we hope to do it again! ~Heather, 2009~

 Skiing

I have always enjoyed skiing and it had been a few years since I had gone. So when Steve told me that his boss had a house in the Poconos, I knew we had to make it a ski trip. Steve was a good sport, and went skiing for the first time! Although he fell down a few times, he left with a smile on his face! ~Heather, 2009~

 Thornton Paintball

Need I say any more?!? My brother and I created this business in our parent’s back woods in Thornton in 2002. Of course we started out with a few friends playing every other weekend with a couple paintball guns being rented to a full out business being operated just about every weekend outside of winter. Heather and I can be found at the field creating fun for all of those that partake. Friends, coworkers, boys, girls, men, women, fathers, mothers, even grandparents can’t get enough of the family atmosphere that we offer to our customers. ~Steve~

 Up, up, and away!

I surprised Steve with a hot air balloon ride for his birthday. It took us multiple attempts to finalize the trip, but finally we were off! Kelly, Jeff, and Evan came out to send us up, up and away! Even though I had done this twice before, I still had butterflies! It as quite the adventure!

 Virginia

After I graduated from college in 2003, I decided to take a risk and try something completely new. That decision led me on a move down to Virginia. I moved to southern Virginia and decided to move to Northern Virginia the following year. After my first year of living in Northern Virginia, I met Steve and spent the following year in a long distance relationship. After Steve and I decided our relationship was moving to a deeper level, I moved back to Pennsylvania. Virginia will always hold a special place in my heart. My best friends live in Virginia and I still visit there often. ~Heather, 2007-2010 | After I graduated from college in 2003, I decided to take a risk and try something completely new. 46: Watkins Glen

On our little road trip from Philadelphia to Niagara Falls, we made a pit stop on our way back to Watkins Glen State Park. To our dismay, being in December, the Park was closed for the winter season but we didn’t realize this until we were in the parking lot. Why turn around and head home without trying to take a peak at 19 waterfalls? So we parked at the upper entrance and walked through a trail as far as we could before jumping the fence to snap a couple pictures. ~Steve, December 2010~

 XTU Concert

. | After Steve and I had been hanging out for a few months, he posted on FB that he was looking to go to the XTU concert with someone. I had said that I would, not thinking anything would come of it. I drove home for the weekend to join him at the concert. Turns out, it was just the two of us. We consider this one of the first dates that we had gone on together. It was a little awkward, but we made the best of it, and went to the XTU concert the following year with some more people. ~Heather, Summer 2009~

 Young Life

While Steve and I were in High School we were both part of a Christian Youth Group called Young Life. Although Steve does not remember, my mom had actually dropped me off at his house to drive over to the meeting place together. One of the things that I remember about Young Life is singing the song Free Falling. When I hear it on the radio, I am reminded how our friendship grew so many years ago. ~Heather, 2003~

 Zoo

Who doesn’t enjoy going to the zoo?! Well, of course we did! There were lots of animals in cages and even wild ones roaming the sidewalks. Near lunch time, a peacock jumped out of the cage and started meandering the sidewalk like he owned the place! Not something you see every day, but hey, we were in Philadelphia! ~Steve, Summer 2010~
