FC: African Slave Trade

1: Slavery was traditionally used in Africa as a punishment for heinous crimes such as kidnapping or adultery. Prisoners of war were also used as slaves. As the demand for slaves grew, traders began kidnapping men, women and children to sell into slavery.

3: Several nations such as the Ashanti of Ghana and the Yoruba of Nigeria were involved in slave trading. Slavery in African cultures was like Indentured servitude

4: African slaves were paid wages. They often were able to buy property. Sometimes they could even buy their freedom. Once their freedom was bought they could even gain social prominence.

5: In Conclusion: Africans were subjected to many forms of slavery over the centuries.
