S: Agape Pregnancy Resource Center 2004-2014
FC: Pregnancy Resource Center | Agape | 2004 - 2014
1: "Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!" Psalm 107:1
2: Believe it or not, Agape began in a good ol’ Round Rock traffic jam. On the morning of April 22, 2002, I was driving my kids to school to the tune of a praise CD when I pulled out onto 620 and the traffic was not moving. I needed a traffic report...so out came the CD and on went AM radio. Instead of a traffic report, I found a broadcast of Focus on the Family with Dr. James Dobson. The traffic was forgotten as I listened to the last few minutes of an interview of a panel of Pregnancy Center Directors from across the nation. After dropping the kids off at school, I pulled out of the parking lot and began channel surfing again. This time I came to another station that was beginning the same program! Needless to say, by the time I returned home, I had heard the entire program and was certain this was a Divine appointment. My heart was moved and I wondered if God wanted me/my church to volunteer with a local pregnancy center. So, I went straight to the phone and called Linda Cotton, the WMU (Woman’s Missionary Union) director at my church and she agreed that this would be a wonderful place for our ladies to volunteer. As we talked, I thumbed through the Yellow Pages only to find that there was nothing in Round Rock, except something called “The Heidi Group”. Well, we had never heard of The Heidi Group even though the address was only blocks from our church. So, the next call was to my pastor, Dr. Gary Brinkley...who had not heard of The Heidi Group either. He suggested calling to “check them out”, so I dialed their number and talked to the sweet receptionist. After relaying the above story, she assured me that someone would call back shortly. Someone did return my call an hour later. In a heavy, Texas drawl, that someone said, “This is Carol Everett. Did you just hear me on the radio?” God had my complete attention! Just two hours before I was in my car listening to an interview of these wonderful women, and now I am on the phone with one of them! One week later, we met with Carol in her office and learned that The Heidi Group is not a pregnancy center, but assists centers all over the nation. Eager to volunteer, we offered to help with mail-outs or other needs. Carol, however, had another idea. She looked us straight in the eye and challenged us to open a center in Round Rock! Having absolutely no experience in this area, we politely said, “NO”! In June, 2002, Carol spoke at our “Women On Mission” meeting. Again, she challenged us to open a center. We ended that meeting with a call to prayer the next evening. Thus began several weeks of prayer meetings to discern God’s will in thd matter. In late July, we polled the prayer group and unanimously agreed that we were indeed to begin a pregnancy center. A steering team was formed and we began the 18-month process to open Agape. ~ Jo Markham, 2004 | The Beginning

11: introducing the vision
12: Linda Cotton & Polly Williamson, along with all the Steering Team, braved a rain storm to visit a potential site to house Agape. Members gathered in a circle inside 104 E. Main, in what is now the office/lobby, and prayed. The team knew this was the place and never visited another property.

16: Countless hours of preparation!
17: Some of the "fruit" of our labor...many, many baby items and office furniture donated and kept in storage until Agape opened. What we couldn't use was sold in a giant garage sale!

21: Dozens of volunteers donated countless hours to complete the finish out and painting of Agape.
22: ...One of God's many, many provisions!
23: An ultrasound machine (shown above) was miraculously provided to Agape, but we had no one to operate it! The manufacturer of the machine offered to send a trainer to Round Rock, but at a fee of over $2,000...at the time, that might as well have been a million dollars! So, we waited, prayed, and trusted God to provide again. After Agape's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Open House, the Steering Team stayed late to wash dishes. As we worked in Agape’s little kitchen, a man appeared, wondering who we were and what we were doing. We explained. He then asked if we had an ultrasound machine. We pointed to our machine, still wrapped in plastic in the hallway. That man, Ellison Marshall,an ultrasound trainer at Austin Community College, handed us his business card and offered to train us free of charge! Ellison has continued to volunteer his time to train Agape volunteers for 10 years. | E Ellison Marshall
