S: ARIZONA October 2011

FC: 2011 Arizona Tucson Goodyear Phoenix October 14-22

Saturday October 15th Ballooning in Tucson 5:30 am: Met Foolish Pleasures Balloon pilot and crew

Dan, our pilot. and his crew of 5 people assembled the balloon. | When we landed they told us that our flight was the maiden voyage of their new balloon...they did have a shakedown flight with their crew so we really weren't the first. Thank goodness! | Sun rising quickly

Our launching spot as we floated away. Crew just about ready to start chasing our balloon. | When we first climbed into the basket it wouldn't leave the ground! Too heavy--had to leave an extra gas tank with the crew. Hope this guy knows what he's doing!

Tucson Mountains We floated between two peaks to get to the Avra Valley. As we approached we hoped the wind would cooperate! Were about 250 feet above the ground and as we flew over homes dogs barked liked crazy.

Floated northwest over the Tucson Mountains toward the Avra Valley.

Looking up from the basket. | Chase crew taking pictures of us! | Above the Avra Valley

Floating over cotton fields that were ready to pick. Looked like a field of cotton balls below us. | About 8 am we landed next to a runway at a small airport. The chase crew was right there when the balloon touched down. After packing up the balloon we drove to a park for a delicious champagne breakfast!

Cacti outside El Corral, a 60 year old steakhouse in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains .

Such a neat place but high 90s was a bummer! Most exhibits outside. Guzzled water at every chance. | Simulated cave was nice & cool. Live bats--Jim tried out some bat ears. | Sunday, 10/16/11

Took this picture during a a flight demonstration. | Grey Hawk landed near us.

After a hot morning at the Desert Museum we were ready for an air-conditioned drive. | We started our drive in the high desert with cacti everywhere. Altitude 2000 ft. 98 degrees | Drive Up Mt. Lemmon | Windy Point Vista

As we drove up the mountain the scenery changed from desert plants to evergreens and then beautiful Aspen trees. Ski resort at the top and 30 degrees cooler! Altitude 9157 feet.

Stopped for a photo at 7 Cataracts Vista. This drive was beautiful and a highlight of our trip to Tucson. | Driving down Mt. Lemmon

After ballooning we took the narrated tram ride up the SABINO CANYON. It was BEAUTIFUL. Would have loved to hike back down but not at 99 degrees . . . it's DRY heat. Yeah, right! | On Monday morning, October 17th we visited the PIMA AIR MUSEUM before we headed north to visit Jack & Sue Jarrett in Goodyear.

Hiking in White Tank Mountains | Hiking in Estrella Mountain Park | Phoenix/Goodyear October 17-22 | Petroglyphs on boulders

 Fun at the Jarrett's

Our walk around the lakes at Estrella Mountain Ranch | Purple Sage | Koi

Indian Museum in Phoenix | Dinner at Saddle Ranch Chop House in Glendale Ribs and then complimentary apple cinnamon cotton candy for dessert. Do we look like tourists or what?

Jack & Sue were the 1st contestants in the 2011 Krush | Friday, October 21st

We ended our Arizona vacation by stomping grapes in the 10th annual Kokopelli Krush in Chandler, AZ.
