FC: A smile as sweet as spring | Calpurnia
Project by: Audrey Eddy and Hayley York
My name's Calpurnia and there ain't nothin I love more than takin care of the Finch family and cookin! Mr. Finch has been too kind over the years and is kind in taking me in as family.
Nothin is better than my home cooked meals. I love going to church on Sunday's to worship the lord, and 'cuz I can see my son Zeebo. My son and I are two of four colored people from church that can read and write.
Mr. Jem is the most responsible kid I've ever met. We've had our share of ups and downs, but I'll always love him. He is going to be hearted like his daddy one day.
Scout is a feisty, yet precious tomboy. She might be hard to deal with at times, but she's definitely a sweetheart when she wants to be.
Tom's Trial | The day of Tom Robinson's trial broke my heart. Not one colored folk's gonna forget 'bout the day Tom was convicted guilty of sexual harassment. I does feel sorry for poor little Helen, Tom's wife. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
I make sure my kids don't go out lookin like they's been playin around all day. They's gots to be lookin nice when I take them out to church and they walk among my people. After all I gotta make Lula jealous of my darlings. | Church with the kids
Crackling Bread | I love making my Jean Louise some crackling bread when she's feeling down. It always seems to cheer her up, possibly 'cuz I am a pretty good cook!
There was nothing scarier than that day when Ms. Alexandra handed me this note saying that Mr. Jem and Ms. Jean Louise were missing. This note is always a friendly reminder to me to love the things that you got in life.
Words of Wisdom | "Don't matter who they are, anybody sets foot in this house's yo comp'ny and don't you let me catch you remarkin' on their ways like you was so high and mighty!" (Lee 24).
