2 | Today is my birthday party! Before I can actually have my party, there are some things we need to do to get ready. So we went to the party store to get the decorations and the piñata and my mom made the cake.
I just turned 6 a couple days ago and some of my friends are coming over today to celebrate! We'll do lots of fun stuff like open presents and eat cake and play outside! | 3
4 | Opening presents is always exciting and this year I got tons of awesome stuff! But my favorite thing was the pink inflatable chair that Tiffani got for me.
5 | After opening the presents, it was time to eat cake! Everyone gathered around the table and sang "Happy Birthday" to me. My parents have me a birthday hat that I wore while we ate.
6 | After we finished eating the yummy cake, we went to the front yard where a piñata awaited us. It was a colorful parrot and when we hit it, candy flew out!
7 | After the piñata, we made our way to the backyard where we were given a clown show! I knew my sisters were the clowns but I played along so I wouldn't ruin the effect. They were putting on the show when all of a sudden...
8 | My mom ran out side and told my Aunt Robyn to watch us because she had to go to the hospital. At first, I was worried because I thought she was hurt but then she told me Miss June was having her baby.
Miss June has been like a second mother to me forever. Her daughter, Mahkayla, has been one of my best friends for as long as I can remember.
Miss June already had 3 kids. Jasmin, the oldest; then Mahkayla, who is my age; and lastly, Kahlil, the youngest, so far.
9 | That same day, baby Jalen was born. The next day, we got to go see him at the hospital. Although I was upset that my mom had to leave, it was okay because it was all for Jalen.
About the Author | Lindsey Mertens wrote this book when she was 17 years old, in her creative writing class. She grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin and attended Ashwaubenon High School. She had many interests such as singing in the school's choir as well as a worship team at church, she enjoyed bowling although she didn't get to do it much, and she enjoyed spending time with her family; her mother, Colleen; her father, Mark; and her two sisters, Amber and Brittney. Her inspiration for this book came from her actual 6th birthday party. She chose to write about it because not only did it celebrate her birth, but also the birth of another.
