2: New England Colonies | ~The puritans left england to go to the new england colonies because they wanted to entirely seperate from the church of England. they wanted a more simple worship. | ~In The Massachusetts bay colony people believed that the government had to much power which led them to find another colony with strict limits on the government.
3: ~The Puritans and the Native Americans fought because more English colonists were settling on their land. In 1675, the chief of the Wampanoag Indians, Metacom, got very angry that the English were settling on his land. He got so angry that he destroyed 12 towns and killed more than 600 Europeans with his allies. | ~Towns and villages were very important in the new england colonies. every Sunday was their sabbath, which was a holy holiday of rest. And every once in a while they would hold town meeting to discuss any problems or ideas.
4: Middle Colonies | ~The colony of new Netherland became the colony of New York because at first it was under control of Peter Stuyvasent in the Netherlands power until they surrendered to the English. Then the land was given to the kings brother, duke of York and it was named new York. At first the colony was a Propietary colony then it ended as a Royal colony. | ~At first new jersey was a part of New York but the reason it separated is because the duke of York thought that the land was to big to govern for himself. So he gave it to a close friend so it was still under the English rule.
5: ~William Penn founded the colony of Pennsylvania. Penn's family was a perspnal friend of the king. Penn was part of the most despised religious groups in England, the Quakers. Penn was convinced that the quakers must leave england, so he turned to the king for help. the king then issued a royal charter naming Penn the proprietor of a peice of land. The king named the new colony Pennsylvania, meaning Penn's woodlands. | ~Life in the middle colonies was pretty much farming. That's how most people made their living. there was more favorable conditions for farming in the Middle colonies then in the New England. houses tended to be farther apart so then towns were less important. it was more of counties rather than villages.
6: Southern Colonies | ~Sir George Calvert persuaded the king into giving him land in 1632. he ruined his career in protestant england by becoming a roman catholic. thats what made him want a colony that catholics could practice their religion freely. He named this colony Maryland. | ~A group of eight English nobles were granted land by the king in 1663. Settlement took place in the north and in the south. the colony was splitted into two and called north Carolina and south Carolina. Georgia, the last of the thirteen colonies was carved from the southern part of South Carolina. James Oglethorpe settled this colony.
7: ~The slave trade grew mostly because there were so many enslaved Africans that there was nowhere else for them to go and the fields needed many workers so they just traded them all out and put them to work. Thats when it grew and grew. | ~The two ways of life in the southern colonies were tidewater plantations and the backcountry south. tidewater plantations was enslaved Africans working on the feild to make whatever was intended. Tobacco, rice, and indigo were their big sellers. the backcountry south was were more people settled and lived.
