S: Heleena's First Year
FC: Heleena Valerie Davies' First Year
2: Although I’m the third child in our family, in many ways I have been a “first” for my mommy, beginning with labor and delivery. Mommy has always been induced a week past her due date and her cervix, at the time of induction, has always been neither dilated nor effaced. Two weeks before her due date the doctor checked her out and found that she was dilated to 3cm and was 60-70% effaced. This was a new thing for her, which made her a little nervous. Especially because Daddy was going out of town soon and so were Mummi & Pappa Will. Who would watch my brothers if I came early? For the next couple of weeks after her doctor appointment Mommy had regular contractions several times, lasting from hours to days at a time. It was the night before Mommy’s due date and she went to bed | around midnight like always. She woke up every hour with mild contractions that made her have to use the bathroom, but was able to go back to sleep for another hour. At almost 4 a.m. she again awoke with a contraction. She couldn’t go to sleep because the contractions kept coming. At 5:30 a.m. she started to time them. They were coming every ten minutes and continued this way. She wasn’t sure if she was in real labor or still just false labor. She called the hospital around 8:30 a.m. and they told her she could come in to be checked. She got to Southwest Washington Medical Center close to 10 a.m. and was already dilated to a “stretchy eight”! I was coming real soon! Right on my due date! Mommy decided to have an epidural to by-pass some of her labor pain. | The anesthesiologist gave her too much and she couldn’t even tell if she was pushing. She said it was the most awful feeling of not having any control and would have rather felt the labor pain instead. Mommy’s contractions never progressed to closer than about ten minutes apart, even after her water broke. When it came time to push she had to wait a while till a contraction came. When it finally came she pushed. She just kept pushing even after the contraction because nobody was sure when the next one would come. It took 3 minutes of pushing from start to finish and out I came! I entered the world at 12:24 p.m. on September 7, 2008. I was the most beautiful person my mommy had ever seen. | My Birth Story
4: My first weeks home were peaceful. I was serene, strong, a good eater, and a fabulous sleeper! In fact, that's all I wanted to do when I wasn't otherwise eating!
5: I was welcomed by my brothers' loving arms. Although only newly born, I was already very girly; enough to balance this family out. | My newborn strength was amazing! I held my head up immediately upon birth, and even stood with little help. The Davies blood runs rapid through my veins!
