S: SPOT the book
SPOT Adopted at 3 1/2 months old in September of 1996, | Spotty Jane Toole came with fleas, but was potty trained. She came for a slumber party to see if she fit in. She never left.
If you got up, when you came back, She'd be in your spot! | Spotty was extremely skilled at burying bones indoors. Many times we would get in bed only to find a bone perfectly "buried" in our pillows. She'd dig for however long it took till everything looked exactly as it had pre-burial. It was a blast to watch...but if she caught us watching...hiding place ruined, then she'd be off to find another, with the bone sticking straight out of the front of her mouth...NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TOOK!
Spot learned new tricks throughout her life, but had favorites she played always | She was an 'only dog', something her dad Jimi (an only child) and brother Rory (an only son) could relate to. Even though we played with her, there were bound to be times she wanted to play when none of us were around. | She taught herself to play catch. She would throw the ball up in the air and try to catch it. Sometimes she actually did. Sometimes she knocked over a vase. | She would play Hide-and-Seek with a toy. As she played, she would roll on top of the toy, then look for it as if she had no idea where it was.
She was part of the Family Though Jesse had moved out by the time she came along, Spot knew she was Jesse's dog too, even if it was from a remote location
Spotty was an accomplished singer. She couldn't help herself. If the right music came on, it was as if she was possessed...she could not stop from singing along. She'd sing low for softer songs and really howl out for the more wild ones.
Dress-Up, she could take it or leave it...you could see it in her face. But the squeals of joy that greeted her when anyone saw her were maybe a little bit worth it, sometimes we saw a tiny smile | She had a great big bluish black spot on the back of her tongue, which worked out since we'd been calling her Spot for 3 months before we ever saw it. You could sometimes see it easier after she lost a tooth
Emily was positive that Spot had opposable thumbs, she said that Spot had HANDS because she was so skilled at holding things. Jimi argued the point EVERY TIME! (the same way he does when we say celebrities die in 3's) | She was cute!
Though her mother was a neighbor and her father was her brother, neither of them ever looked as much like a Fox/Bat/Sausage/Wolf as Spot did.
The cone could be dangerous, the poor thing was forever running into things & knocking things over with it
Spot loved to lie on things...didn't matter how lumpy or uncomfortable, if there was a hose across the driveway, she'd lay her elbows right on it. She'd lay her eye on the corner of a box, her head on a rock (pointy or smooth, no preference) her nose squished up against a dresser...and snore comfortably. One day we were throwing construction trash out the 2nd story window, next thing we looked, Spot...on top of the pile, sound asleep.
She loved Christmas, always able to tell which present was hers
She had a favorite ornament, considering her favorite position (shown here near her ornament) it's kinda funny that her favorite ornament would be a BIKE
Spot's favorite birthday cake was carrot cake (at least we hope so, cuz it's all she ever got, for 14 years)
She was a queen and she knew it. She was very confident and comfortable on the furniture alongside the princes and princesses
Everyone loved her | When Spot would go to coffee with Em, she was very independent. Em would tie her leash to a table. That didn't bother Spot, if she wanted to go visiting, she would just go ahead, gently dragging the table behind her Spot would go on extended visits to Em's house, she was pretty comfortable there, she had her own fan. She was so comfortable, Rory started to get worried
Spot loooved to hang out with you while you were eating. Strangely she would get distracted and take off the minute you'd take your last bite.
Spotty smiled a lot! | She gave up half of her yard for the studio | Spot figured out that if she scratched at the back door to go out, she could get us into the utility room, then she would back up and look at the biscuits, then back at us, then again at the biscuits. We'd been had. Most times we were so amazed at her ingenuity that we couldn't help but give her the biscuit
 She loved to sleep
Rory never slept as much as he did with her
A long, long time ago, she was darker, and in better shape
We liked to think she was our Protector.... Tho she never once barked at a stranger (unless it was a dog)
She was Wabi-Sabi She was perfect
