2: The Ordinary World: The ordinary world for John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) is leading his company through the war. He is a Captain and leader of his company. He is used to war and knows what will happen. Most of his men might not make it so he makes it his goal to keep them alive.
3: Call to Adventure: After taking over the beach and not losing any of his men. Tom is asked to take his men on an almost impossible mission for one man. He was asked to save Private Ryan. All of his brothers died, and the army thought that it wasn't fair to his mother. Tom has to take his men deep into enemy territory for one man.
4: Refusal of the Call: He doesn't want to take the mission, because it isn't fair to his men. His hand starts shaking often showing he's nervous about the mission.
5: Meeting with the Mentor: Tom and his company need to take a interpreter with them. Timothy Upham is their interpreter for their mission. They need him to talk to the German civilians or soldiers they capture. To give them information on there positions.
6: Crossing the First Threshold: The first threshold they cross is going through a town when they are looking for Ryan. The town is heavily bombed. A little girl with her family is yelling at the men for help. Vin Diesel being the gentlemen he is goes out in the open to get her. As he grabs her and lets her down to the ground. He turns to the guys saying it wasn't a problem. He spoke to soon and got sniped.
7: Tests: They are tested in small fire fights. Allies: Their company and U.S. Army. Enemies: Nazi Army.
8: Approach: They are taking a route to where Ryan is. He is protecting a bridge that the Germans and U.S. need to move their tanks and men. On the way the reach a radio station with a small group of Nazi's. They have two turrets and the Medic gets killed.
9: He wanted to keep all of his men alive. Losing the Medic was a great loss. The mens moral dropped after that. | Ordeal: When the Medic dies Tom feels like he has nothing left. He feels that he has failed his men, and he starts to cry.
10: Reward: They finally reach the bridge and find their main goal Ryan. The men want to just get him and leave. | Tom tells him that he lost all his brothers. Now Ryan feels the only brothers he has left are his men.
11: The men in Tom's group are completely upset. The went all this way losing their best friends. They want to get out of there. But they know they need the bridge. | The Road Back: Ryan wont leave his men and Tom understands why. They need to keep this bridge anyway for their tanks.
12: The Resurrection Hero: They all stay risking their lives for one man and one bridge. They have strategically places turrets, explosives, and their sniper in positions to slow down the Nazi. | Tom is risking his life running around with Ryan to keep him alive.
13: Return with the Elixir: Tom did his mission he saved Ryan, as many of his men as he could, and the bridge. He dies knowing he finished his mission, and saved many men.
