50: Farewell | What a whirlwind of blessings this past year has been! When I entered the Paramount Theatre one year ago, I had no idea all the blessings in store for me. I have made lifelong friends and memories and I have truly had the experience of a lifetime, all thanks to soooo many wonderful people. First, I have to thank my daddy for finally agreeing to let me wear lipstick and high heels. No matter what the future may hold, my first and favorite title will always be ‘Daddy’s Little Girl.” Thank you and mom for traveling countless miles and weekends so that I can be a princess. I love you to the moon and back. Hudson, thank you so much for being my little brother. Thank you for keeping me grounded, well-rounded and, yes, sometimes bruised. No matter how big or old you get, you’ll always be my “little” brother and that means I’m the boss! Thanks to all of my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins for all your support and love. It’s great to know “The Olive Fan Club” is always there, no matter where I go! Thank you, Miss Dana and Momma Vik for always helping me to be a “kickin’ chicken!” It’s true that behind every princess stand her fairy Godmothers and I count you both among my family’s blessings! Mckenzie Bradley, my “soul sister!” Thank you for just being you, fan-tab-u-lous you! You are so sweet and I know you’re always there to take care of me and have LOTS of fun! I love you bunches! Miss Beth, hellerrr! Thank you for all the good times this year and keeping my momma straight! I so excited to see what’s next for the Tieman and Bradley chicks!! Thank you, Ms. Deborah and Charli for holding my hand as I stepped out into this great big pageant world. Your mentoring and friendship mean the world and I’m glad to know we’re “family” for a lifetime. I’ll forever be honored to have been a Ham and Yam Girl! This year would not have been the same without each of my Princess of North Carolina sisters. My daddy said this was the only way I’d ever have 10 sisters and I can honestly say you are the best bunch of sisters a girl could ever wish for. I’m proud we’ve made lifelong friendships and I know great things are in store for every one of you. Miley, our little “Miss Hollywood,” keep workin’ that attitude, girl and you will go far! Aubrianna, my buddy and partner in crime when it was time to add a little mischief into any day! You are one super sweet four year old and I know I’ll see you on a big stage one day soon. Rylee, coming to PONC together as friends and roommates who would ever have thought we’d leave Goldsboro as sisters? I’m so glad we got to share this year of tremendous opportunity together as sisters AND best friends! I love you bunches and can’t wait to hear all about your first day of kindergarten. Charli, again, what can I say? Thank you for everything! You’ve been my big sister since that very first day of the Ham and Yam festival and I look up to you tremendously! And thanks for teaching me to love Charlie Daniels! Whatever you choose is next for you, I know you will be the best! Katie, you are one of a kind and a girl of many talents. Keep singing and dancing and cheering! You’re definitely a star!
51: Kate, I think we really made Ms. Deborah proud this year when two of her Ham and Yam girls won state titles. Thank you for taking me under your wing and showing me the ropes. I can’t wait to see what’s next for you and know you can do anything you put your mind to! Chrissy, I loved being your “little baby doll” this year and can’t wait for you to teach me all those dance moves. Kristin, we had a pretty special bond from the beginning. I’m so glad we got this year together and you may never know how much I look up to you. I love you to pieces...and you still owe me a sleepover! Victoria, thank you for guiding us through each step of this year. You say when you grow up, you hope your little girl just like me, but when I grow up, I hope I’m just like you! And Blair, my Supreme Sister. There are so many things I could say to describe you, but I keep coming back to this...you’re a blessing. A blessing to so many! Thank you for being such a great role model for all of us...and for sharing your lipstick! You know our folks back in Duplin County say, “pretty is as pretty does,” and I’m sure we made them proud this year! I love you, chicken! I love each of you girls and know that my life has forever been changed by each of you. While we’ve suddenly come to the end of our year together, today is definitely not a goodbye to any of you! And watch out Miss America, the girls of PONC have bid you fair warning! And finally, Steve and “Aunt” Susan. What can I say about the two most giving people I’ve met. The Princess of North Carolina state system is truly the best, because of you. You really are every bit as wonderful as you seem from the outside looking in, and then some. This year we have truly been a family, where it’s not about the title or the crown but how you wear it and the impact you make in the lives of others. Thank you for teaching us, not how to wear a crown, but how to be princesses, from the inside out! In parting, I leave you all this morning with a verse from Psalm 139, “I will praise God for I am wonderfully made. All of God’s works are marvelous, I know that full well!” Each of us is like a snowflake, every person is unique. No two are the same. And to this year’s contestants, remember every day that you are wonderfully made! God sees you as a masterpiece; and when you look in the mirror, He wants you to "know that full well." To the next Princess of North Carolina State Queens, wear your crown proudly and take advantage of every opportunity the year ahead has in store for you. Go to every pageant, parade, festival and fundraiser you can. What you get out of this year will be directly related to what you have put into it. Giving it your all, the year will fly by and your life will forever be changed for the better! Remember, it’s not about the crown, but how you wear it and the impact you make on the lives of others! While I am forever a Princess of North Carolina girl, today I say for the last time, “I’m Olivia Abberly Tieman, your Mini Supreme Princess of North Carolina!”
52: “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
