S: The Penelope Chronicles: Volume II
FC: The Penelope Chronicles | Volume II
Penelope turned the big "1" on August 20, 2010. Thus began her second year.
August and September were exciting months because this is when you learned how to walk! You started by pulling up and standing on your own, and then you moved to taking those first steps. Once you mastered walking, there was no looking back!
From crawling to walking to climbing stairs to doing chores. There is no limit to what you learned how to do your second year!
Fall is Looking Pretty Spectacular | It has been a lovely experience to witness your blooming relationship with your cousins, especially Owen. He has learned to be gentle with you, and you are learning how to hold your own ground. | October meant celebrating birthdays, Silver Dollar City, and Halloween. Plus a fabulous headband.
Let's describe November as "Girl on the Go." Another trip to Silver Dollar City, the big 15-month check-up, and a curiosity to explore every inch of your surroundings. | You discovered a love for cell phones. Mommy gave you her old one, and it was glued to your hand for several days. You did eventually lose interest, but you still enjoy pretending to talk on the phone.
As soon as you were old enough to do it yourself, you became very interested in accessories. One of your favorite things to do is put on a hat, a headband or purse around your neck, and your boots and you are ready to go outside. It is so cool to see your sense of style begin to develop!
We got a new camera in December, and you were the perfect model to use when figuring it out. We had four different Christmas celebrations: Grammy and Grampy's (which also involved your first trip to Dixie Stampede), one at home with just the three of us, and two in Oklahoma.
On the nine hour ride to Oklahoma you only slept for about thirty minutes. You were a tired girl when we got there, but you were so happy to see everyone. For Christmas you got many amazing presents, but your favorite is a tea set from Grammy. It is so fun to have tea parties with you, Sweet P!
There were a few nice days in January, so we were able to get outside. You love being outdoors! You also have started snuggling your animals. I see such a sweet side emerging every day.
February brought more mild temperatures, so once again we took advantage of it whenever possible. This month also marked the first time I was able to put your hair in a real ponytail! You have the sweetest puff of blond hair, and it curls just perfectly. At the rate your hair is growing, you will be able to wear a braid in no time!
March provided more and more hints that Spring was on the way. We broke out the shorts a time or two, and we even needed to wear shades. You also had a fun time helping Mommy wash dishes. Eventually you climbed in the tub, but you loved every minute! | Your silly side is getting stronger with each passing month. You make funny faces to make us laugh and one of your favorite things to do is dance and play music.
Book Book! This is one girl who loves to read!
It is so special to watch you with your Daddy. He can make you laugh so much you have to catch your breath. He also has a miraculous way of soothing you when it is time for night night. He talks softly in your ear, and you melt into him and relax. You already have such a strong bond, and you are very lucky to be your Daddy's daughter.
April was a good month for you, happy girl. You got to go to the St. Louis zoo with the family, make friends at the park, and twirl in a frilly pink skirt. Perfection!
May is Mommy's birthday and you helped to celebrate at the park. Your favorite equipment at the park is the slide, followed closely by the lion and the swings. Ultimately, though, you prefer to play in the dirt and feel the wind in your hair.
The Many Faces of Penelope Jane | If anyone knows how to be silly it is you! You enjoy making funny faces just as much as you enjoy dressing up. Your favorite face is scrunching up your nose and squinting your eyes. This is closely followed by the sassy face you make when Mommy is annoying you. You have even started throwing in a head shake and a "no!"
Who says dinner has to be boring?
June was a busy month. We prepared to move closer to Grammy and Grampy and the rest of the family, but we did take time for some fun in Oklahoma and Kansas. You are a dancing machine, and you are also becoming quite the little swimmer. | This month brought new words, a photo shoot, and a few fantastic hats. Hey, Penny, show us your best moves!
One word can sum up July: hot! Record heat never seemed to give us a break, so we did not get outside much. When we did, we made sure it involved water. We also made the big move, and you absolutely love being closer to your Grammy and Grampy!
Two of your favorite people are NeeNee and NeeNee (your words for Grammy and Grampy, and yes, you use the same word for both). As soon as I mention their names you head for the door, hoping we will go for a visit. I love that you are loved!
You are a lucky girl. In addition to having the best Grammy and Grampy ever, you also have two aunts who adore you, and cousins who love to look after you. It is the most amazing thing to watch you growing up with them. I was an aunt before I was a Mommy, and I know how truly special that relationship can be, and my heart swells to see you get to experience that unique bond. It is only going to keep getting better!
August proved to be just as hot as July. We spent a lot of time inside, but you kept us entertained. You sing and dance your way through life which is just fine with us!
Mommy also went back to work this month, so you got to spend quality time with Daddy. Together you had some crazy fun.
 T H E N | & N O W
Mommy + Penny = True Love | Two years ago you where a whisper in my belly, giving me fluttery kicks to let me know you were ready for anything. You are the funniest, smartest, sassiest, most gorgeous girl, and I will love you forever and a day!
At long last, it is finally time for...
Your birthday! When I look back on the last two years, I cannot believe how quickly you are growing up! We went with a Word World and summery theme for your party, and all your favorite people helped celebrate.
The three of us have so many memories already. We laugh together daily, and we are already dreaming of the vacations we will take as soon as you are a bit bigger, Penny!
Your fairy fluff hair is constantly evolving. It might be sleek and straight(ish) one moment and wild ringlets the next. You do not always love having it pulled back, but whatever the hairdo, it is perfect!
Your first two years were the most interesting, fantastic gift. Your third year has a lot to live up to, but we imagine it will bring many more adventures!
Our Dear Sweet Penny, My, how much has changed in a year! You are walking, talking, and dancing now; we can already see glimmers of the big girl you are going to become. We did not realize our hearts could keep growing with love for you, but you are the most amazing girl and we are so very lucky you are our daughter. You have music in your soul, and it is the most fantastic thing to watch you dance to whatever beat you can create. You walk through the house singing, and it does not take much to get you to show us "your best moves." Your second birthday brought a percussion set, and your third birthday might just bring a small guitar. You love playing Daddy's big guitar, so this will be a perfect gift! Fashion is another area of interest. One of your favorite things to do is pull on as many clothes and accessories as you can manage. You wear tanktops as pants, pants as hats, and headbands as necklaces. Throw in your minor obsession with shoes, and you are quite the fashionista. We hope this stays with you because it means you will have a very unique style! Well, maybe not the wearing shirts as pants ;) You remind us what it is to love each and every day. You get so much enjoyment out of simply living. The smallest things make you smile, and your laugh is deep and genuine. Words cannot completely capture the quirky girl that you are.
If you still like to look through this book when you are older, we hope you read this letter and know how much you were (and are) loved. You make it challenging to be stern with you because you already know how to make us laugh Will this still be the case in ten years? You will just have to tell us then! Little crazy lady, may you always smile at the little things, dance to your own beat, and love your Mommy and Daddy. We sure love you, sweet Penny. Thank you for completing our family and turning out to be such a fabulous kid. Year two brought amazing new developments, so we can only imagine what year three will bring! We love you forever and a day, and we want to thank you for being our best girl. Love, Mommy and Daddy | Mommy and Daddy | Penny
