S: Global Expeditions Mission Trip 2010
FC: Global Expeditions Mexico X Trip June 2010
My Journey Global Expeditions Matamoros, Mexico 2010
I have always wanted to go on a mission trip. God provided me a way and I put my trust in Him. Even though I didn't know anyone, I left for Texas and for the Teen Mania Campus. When I arrived at the airport, a sea of green shirts met me.
The first week was training. We took classes and got to know our mission group. We were also part of a ceremony that was to bless our journey. | I prayed that God would send me someone who I could connect with on the trip, Elaine was that person for me.
We were assigned to long houses with dozens of bunks. We also had our own "Mexico" table in the cafeteria. That week we were split into groups to conduct a day of VBS when we got to Mexico.
On Friday, week 1, we packed up and headed south of the border. I was excited and so were the others as we set out for our mission trip.
The first day we tried to cross the border, we were in the bus for about 25 hours. This is because we were denied passage. Though this was disappointing, it did not stop us for trying again.
That night, we were blessed to be able to stay in a nearby church. The next morning we were even more determined to cross the border. God was watching over us and we were able to cross the border on our third try.
When we finally crossed the border, we had to cram into this party bus. It took about an hour to reach the small town where we were staying.
After we arrived, we set up our campsite then went to explore the beach nearby with some of the neighborhood kids.
This was our campsite. We camped right next to a couple who cooked our meals for us. We had make-shift showers and toilets. The toilets were holes in the ground and the showers were tarps and pvc pipe.
Our first task was getting to know the people and our routine. | We were even invited to the Sunday church service.
Our days in Mexico were divided between working on the church they were building and doing VBS for kids nearby.
My favorite part by far was the VBS. I also enjoyed after every program we would go and play with the children, they had a blast, and so would we!!
These are a few moments from the week. Mostly of VBS.
I felt like God sent this little girl to me. She was my shadow the whole trip and I love her so much!! | My Little Friend
On the last day we got to hand out food to the neighborhood. This was one of my favorite parts of the trip.
This trip was a life changing experience where I met the most incredible people. I'm so glad I went.
