S: The Professor Hangs it Up
BC: Not, really.
2: Nieces are so nice
3: Once upon a time, a short time ago, a nervous young man, with the ink still wet on his diploma, stepped into a classroom at Piedmont College in a tiny town in Georgia called Demorest. He smiled, cleared his throat and, finally getting his tongue to work said, " Hello, I'm Dr. Hodge. . . " I, an older student beginning my third year as an English major, and not in the least nervous, sat in the front row and thought, "Now isn't he just the cutest thing!" And so it began, a relationship that has lasted well over thirty years. "Dr. Hodge" has gone from professor to mentor and confidant to "Butch," one half of "Butch and Betsy,"dear friends. This milestone is just the latest of many we have shared over the years. Those years have disappeared somewhere down Alice's rabbit hole, but my respect for his teaching methods, my admiration for his writing skills and my love for the man underneath the nervous grin has not followed Alice . Instead they have stayed to cement a bond between ,what is at its core, just a teacher who loved to teach and a student who loved to learn. | Jinx Haley
