FC: Pam's Summer Road Trip | Summer 2011 | The Lost Coast | Denver | California | Summer Road Trip to

1: Bonneville Salt Flats Utah

2: Pedal to the metal . Heading southwest through the Nevada desert. It's 100 degrees and climbing ! A quick detour to RENO, "The Biggest Little City in the World"

3: The view across Lake Tahoe is magnificent ! This lake has it all . . . soft sandy beaches, snow- capped mountains and pine-covered hillsides. Two paddlers enjoy the calm afternoon waters.

4: Broad Street Inn Nevada City, CA A peaceful night's sleep after a long day in the car. | Downtown Grass Valley, California I enjoyed a great breakfast at Charlie's Café.

5: Northern California Valley. Miles and miles of fruit trees. | Traveling along Highway 20, I wind my way west through the California foothills.

6: The Chandelier Tree. Leggett, California Watch the side mirrors! I maneuver through the giant redwood tree.

7: Shelter Cove, California A beautiful sunset is transformed into twilight. The crescent moon shines brightly over the ocean.

8: The Tide Pools A starfish clings to the sea rocks as the tide goes out. Looking deep into these shallow pools I discovered hundreds of unique sea creatures.

9: Sounds of the Sea. The inlet of Shelter Cove calms the raging sea.

10: Cape Mendocino Lighthouse. | The Tides Inn offered comfortable accommodations overlooking the ocean. | I enjoyed a superb local dinner. Fresh fish with a coconut lime sauce.

11: Black Sands Beach Surfers hike the trail along Black Sands to reach one of the most remote surfing spots in California. This 80 mile stretch of wilderness coastline is aptly named " The Lost Coast"

12: A beachcomber's paradise. | The rocks give life to a lone flower. | Another sunset melts into the ocean.

13: The morning fog hovers over the aqua blue waters embracing the nearby King Mountains.

14: Night falls over the ocean. Tomorrow I leave Shelter Cove I hope to return one day soon.

15: Humboldt Redwoods State Park. The road is flanked by two enormous redwood trees.
