S: Florida 2011

BC: Made with LOVE for my girls: Aubrey Shaye & B'Elanna I had a blast! Love, Mom Summer 2011

FC: Girls Trip to Florida | July 2011

In July, the 4 of us (Mom, Aubrey, Shaye and B'Elanna) took a road trip to Florida! The purpose of the trip was | two-fold: Shaye competed in the AAU National Championships and Aubrey wanted to meet Randy. So we mapped out a course, packed the van and left | in the wee hours of the morning. We drove all the way to Tallahassee the first day and then on into New Smyrna the next. We spent 3 glorious days on the beach! We drove into Orlando for Shaye to | compete and then we left for McDonough, GA. We spent 2 days there before the final trip home. We had a BLAST!

THE LONG DRIVE ..... | It took us around 20 hours to get to Tallahassee. | ARE WE THERE YET???? | It took another 6 hours to reach New Smyrna. | Anthony | Jasper

...TO FLORIDA..... | HOW MUCH FARTHER??? | The girls were surprised at how long it took to drive to Florida. | They entertained themselves by taking self portraits.

New Smyrna Beach! As soon as we arrived in New Smyrna, the girls wanted to see the ocean. We went to the beach before we even unpacked the car. It was a cooler, overcast day but the girls had to stand in the water just to prove we were really there!

Shaye has always wanted to do a handstand on a sandy beach. We took care of that right off the bat.

We were directly across the street from a park and the beach.

We stayed at a cute little one room condo. One wall was the kitchen, the opposite wall was a sliding glass door and in between were 2 twin beds, a recliner, and a sofa sleeper. Behind the kitchen was a nice big bathroom and dressing area. It was all we needed!

AT THE BEACH..... | The beach was a short walk across the street to the park then up and over the park deck. This was our first view of the beach.

INCREDIBLY GROUCHY ICE CREAM LADY!! | We went to Flagler Ave. for homemade ice cream. The lady who worked there was unbelievably grouchy, but the ice cream was soooo yummy!

Learning how to "ride" the waves.

Our trip plans included one whole glorious day at the beach. The girls had a blast playing in the waves and on the sand.

 A U B R E Y: | Had east of

visited the sea once before but on the upper coast Visiting the ocean again confirmed her love the sounds and smells of the sea!

Shaye: | Had never seen the ocean. She loved the beach and the waves, but wasn't sure she liked the salty taste of the sea water! Or the way it stung her eyes!

B'ELANNA: | Had never been to the ocean either. She loved the sand and the seashells. But stepping on a crab was not high on her list of fun things to do!

Shaye was the 2011 (13 year old) AAU Gymnastics National Champion! Her scores were: VAULT: 9.0 (2nd Place) UNEVEN BARS: 9.45 (1st Place) BALANCE BEAM: 9.25 (1st Place) FLOOR: 9.40 (1st Place) ALL-AROUND: 37.10 (1st Place!!)

When we returned from Shaye's big win, the owner of the condo was in the parking lot to meet us. He was so excited to find out that Shaye was champion! He shook her hand and later on we discovered this notice posted on our door. Our condo was right across from the elevator so it caused quite a stir! Shaye was a celebrity!

special restaurant with an appropriate name. The food was tasty AND pretty! The girls couldn't help but take pictures. Plus, there was live piano music while we ate! | We celebrated that evening at a

 FlipFlops Restaurant

The last night in New Smyrna, we played on the beach until it was too dark to see. Then we watched the fireworks a nearby resort shot off over the beach. The girls were amazed at the jellyfish and shrimp that low tide left on the sand. | BEACH...

One last visit to the pool and a few more pics inside (and outside) the condo and we were on our way to Georgia!

The drive to Atlanta, Georgia was fairly uneventful. Until we decided to take a "shortcut". A not-so-friendly Highway Patrol Officer pulled us over to chat! Seems he felt it necessary to give mom a ticket since she "made him burn his gas". (insert very thick Georgia twang here). Guess the folks in Georgia pull over immediately after an officer flashes his lights... Needless to say, Mom was not very thrilled!

Aubrey finally got to meet Randy in person! We arrived just in time for a wonderful BBQ! The food was delicious and we had a good time getting to know Randy and his family.

Randy Sr. and Linda sure knew how to fix chicken! They also had Red Velvet cake just because it was Aubrey's fave! | Solo | Randy, Sr. | Linda

4TH OF JULY! | Aubrey and Randy exchanged gifts before we shot off 4th of July fireworks. | Aubrey gave Randy a poster collage of pics of herself and he gave her a beautiful dragon.

After meeting all of Randy's cats, and spending time with his family, Aubrey and Randy went on a real date! He took her to a movie and the three of us hung out poolside at the hotel.

Aubrey and Randy definitely hit it off.!

All too soon it was time to leave and once more we hit the road. We packed up the van and made the long trek home. We drove through a forest fire in the Smokey Mountains and saw the St Louis Arch all lit up at night. We reached home in the wee hours of the morning. What a fabulous trip!
