FC: Santorini, Greece & Zurich, Switzerland Our 15th Anniversary Trip 2011
Our Golden Moment finally arrived! Glen and I were off to celebrate our 15th Anniversary together in Greece and Switzerland. Our kids stayed with Grandma and Grandpa, right after they moved back to the farm. They were very generous to offer to watch our kids for 10 days. | Our early morning started with some goodbyes and hot coffees! Here we finally arrive in Athens, Greece where we had to wait another 6 hours before we'd leave for our final destination: | Santorini, Greece
We reached our hotel, Santorini Palace, in the evening and this is the view we had! So gorgeous and inviting! A different world to explore!
Here's our hotel. We had the best suite possible, top floor with views going in three directions. We couldn't believe it! Glen was the only one to swim in the freezing pool. He loved it!
Our first day of exploring the streets and the views from Fira's cliffs overlooking the Caldera, or sunken volcano. Breathtaking views, just like all the magazines!
Our dream came true and here we were, soaking it up in Santorini! Seeing the cliffsides bursting of villages. So happy to be here!
 Going, going, gone!
 Kamari Beach
Sunset dinner at our favorite restaurant overlooking the sea. That wine chicken meal was delicious! We went back a second time for that meal! | Romantic Dinner
 it works.
We took a day excursion to the Caldera Volcano, Hot Springs, the Island of Thirasia and Oia. Here we took the gondola down to the Port of Ormos Firon.
 The | Caldera
Here we are at the Caldera, the famous submerged volcano crater situated in the middle. The Island of Santorini was called Strogili in Ancient times, which means "rounded" in Greek. After a terrible eruption, the center of the island sank in the sea, leaving only the crater and imposing cliffs of 150m to 300m in height.
The Island of Thirasia in the background. | Our guide (with his towel on his head) had a fever that day but still came. | Wow!
We sailed over to these hot springs. We dove off the boat into the refreshing water. It got hotter the further in we went. There were jelly fish too, which got me out quick! | Hot Springs
To Thirasia | Enjoyed a Greek meal here on the island. | Walked along the shore before heading for Oia.
 The Sunset Town of Oia
We decided to do as the Greeks do and go up with the donkeys. Good decision because that saved us 177 steps! Donkeys knew where to go all by themselves and would race each other. Neat experience, as well as stinky!
 Snapshots of Fira
Overlooking the Caldera from the Winery! Absolutely breath taking! We saw a wedding, as well as pictures being taken here. Happy 15th Anniversary to us!
We explored this little town called Emporio . Had difficulty driving up to the church so had to walk up through a maze of buildings. Beautiful views!
 Steps to Nowhere?
View from the top of the mountain.
Found the lighthouse all the way on the south side of the island. | Where's Glen?
We drove our quad here and then had to hike 5 min around a bend and... Wow!!!! Need I say more? Gorgeous and the volcanic rock was warm. Tania even swam here. | Red Beach
 Picturesque town of Oia!
Here's our Anniversary dinner in the famous town known for it's sunset dinners. Had yummy bread with olive spread... Mmmmm! | We drove the quad here and I wore jeans with my dress to stay warm after. Fun times! | Sunset Dinner in Oia!
 Skaros Rock
Our favorite, Perissa Beach. Had lunch overlooking the sea and then relaxed and read!
We had an authentic Greek salad - the best! Also one more look at the Caldera.
One last meal at our favorite restaurant, overlooking the bay. Goodbye Greece, we loved our stay!
We stopped in Zurich, Switzerland and stayed with Rob and Jill for 2 days. We went for a walk in the rolling hills and enjoyed the scenery. The Swiss cows really do have large bells! | Welcome to Zurich
We toured Zurich with Rob & Jill.
Zurich Lake was beautiful and we had to try their famous sausages & buns.
