S: The Houser House September 2010 - March 2011

FC: The Houser House | September 2010 - March 2011

After deciding to build with Freedom Building Inc. it took us a while to find a lot. Finally, we decided on Lot #51 in the White Oak Hills subdivision in Kent, OH. We signed the papers and started the build in September of 2010.

After the lot was cleared they staked the lot to show the outer dimensions of the house. Then the excavation started, you can see the big hole in the sand. Eric always wanted a Bobcat so he was excited to get to play in one!

Here you can see the foundation was poured. It was reinforced with re-bar. After that they placed the orange waterproofing pads, beams and glass block windows.

In early December the framing of the house started. We had some pretty heavy snows during the build and they had to shovel out the first floor of the house.

Here the second story is up and they are starting on the roof. Once the roof was on the house was more protected from the weather. They wrapped the house with Tyvek to help insulate.

Here are photos of the back of the house. Below the house was backfilled and the dirt was pushed back in to fill the hole. You can also see the inside framing of the house.

The doors and windows were then installed and more of the inside was starting to be framed. Then they installed the fireplace!

After framing came insulation, duct work and the waterlines. You can see the cool water organizer to help turn off and on lines to certain places.

It was then time for the electric and drywalling the ceiling. They also started laying out the kitchen.

Drywalling really came together fast, all the rooms floor to ceiling were complete, they even did the garage! The green drywall is waterproofing in all the bathrooms.

Here is a view of the kitchen and the stairs are in!

Picking out flooring for every room was quite a task. It took us 9 hours but here are our final choices!

Month 4 - the outside of the house is really coming together.

The finishes of the house probably took the longest. The cabinets are in, the walls painted and flooring installed! Crown molding and wainscoting finish the dining room.

The many phases of the kitchen.

Here is the outside of our house where you can see the deck and final grade.

Dad surprised us with a stone mailbox while we were on our honeymoon! We finally got landscaping and are super excited for grass and plants!

Michelle's dressing table in the master bathroom is a wonderful and unexpected addition.

The floor and shower tile match and all fixtures are oil rubbed bronze. The counter height sinks are another great addition.

Here is the foyer and below is the flex room. | The Final Touches

Here is our finished dining room. It really came together with our furniture! | Here is where we spend most of our time - the Great Room!

Here is the finished kitchen. To the right is our master bedroom, half bathroom and brand new kitchen table set.

Up the stairs to the second floor we go! We had extra wide stairs and 9 foot ceilings so moving was a breeze! | This is the upstairs bathroom... | and the shower... | and the hallway.

It's always nice to have visitors, we have two extra rooms they can stay in.

One lucky long term guest will receive the largest of the bedrooms with a walk in closet! Below is the bonus room we use for our hobbies, lots of fun up here!

Here is our plumbed basement with built in storage! Oh do we have plans for this space some day!
