S: Emma's 11th Birthday Adventure
BC: Happy Birthday Emma! Love Always, Mom & Dad
FC: Mom & Emma's San Diego Adventure
Our adventure started off with a canceled flight! There was a widespread power outage in San Diego that shut down the entire airport. We were able to grab two seats on a flight to LAX arriving after 9 pm. Since our car was reserved at the San Diego Airport we had to get another car in LA. Luckily there were lights in LA, but when we got off the freeway in San Diego the traffic signals weren't working at all. Em slept while mom drove in the dark to the hotel. When we finally arrived we were given glow sticks to find our way to our room. Fortunately the power came back on sometime in the middle of the night! The next morning we attempted to find a place for breakfast. After many wrong turns and a closed Starbucks, we ended up at Sea World early and decided just to have our breakfast there! Nothing like sugar and caffeine to start the day!
Breakfast of champions at SeaWorld. Good thing Em is flexible because we just weren't finding anywhere else to eat.
Emma fed jello to the dolphins during the Animal Spotlight Tour backstage at Sea World.
Emma played with the dolphins, learned about healing the sick turtle and fed live squid to the eels!
The final stop on our spotlight tour was at the giant turtles. After feeding them a feast of lettuce we headed down to the arctic helicopter ride to check out the polar bears.
Emma loved the Shamu show. The whales were amazing! After a full day at the park we had seen every show and were ready to head out. | After driving around a bit to find an Islands that clearly wasn't there any longer, we ended up having dinner at Applebees. We had both forgotten how good the chocolate meltdown was! Of course we still had to drive down to the airport to exchange the car before we could head back to the hotel. We finally made it back around 9:30... a very long, but very good day!
Day two in San Diego started bright and early at the Zoo! We walked the entire place, and Emma took some amazing Animal photos.
Emma loved all the animals and got a great shot of the baby giraffe.
We had a great time at the backstage pass tour. We fed a rhino and met lots of amazing animals! We learned cheetahs at the San Diego Zoo are raised with dogs to make them more comfortable around humans.
We took some of our own photos and the zoo photographer also took some pictures of our close encounters.
The hotel had a great pool and a huge hot tub! | Emma enjoyed a lunch of Sheppard's Pie at the Irish Pub in the Gas Lamp District | A little sand time at the hotel beach.
We took the trolley to Old Town and then later headed into La Jolla
For our last morning, we walked down the boardwalk. | We found a nice spot for brunch. Em had a huge breakfast sandwich!
Emma was sad to be leaving San Diego. She was making sad faces on the bench outside the Alamo Car Rental place.
Happy Birthday Emma! I am so glad that you and I were able to share this adventure together. You are an amazing person and I love you very much. Thank you for sharing your love of animals with me!
