FC: Holland | 2011

1: On April 7th, 2011, Mom, Dad, Lisa and her two girls were the first to leave for a nine hour direct flight to Holland; departing from Calgary at 15:20 and arriving in Amsterdam at 8:00. | The Beginning

2: Around Wapserveen | Tina loved the kitties Felix and Bobbie | Visiting with some red wine on the patio

3: A riding lesson from Bonnie | Horsing around with Simmer

4: Cozy moments in Hennie's farm house with the family | Always lots of people to feed

5: The Soccer Game

6: Beautiful Giethoorn | A boat ride through the canals and an ice cream on a terrace.

8: The Market - Yummy Gouda Cheese | Groeten uit Steenwijk

9: We spent some time in Hasselt, first at Dad's brother Lieuwe's place, and then walked to Hermien's. The girls got to try out the hottub. Followed by a visit to Joost's apartment and then out for Joost's Birthday dinner.

11: Rudyk's leave for the Netherlands Tuesday, April 12th | Arrive on April 13th at Schiphol around 7:30 in the morning | They stayed in a hotel in Weesp close to Jeroen and Monique's home

12: Meanwhile in Edmonton, Albert and Jill leave for London. They spend a couple of days sight-seeing, and then hopped a ferry to cross the English Channel before meeting the family in Hoek van Holland. | London Baby!

15: Exploring Weesp and trying to keep the kids awake

16: Day in Amsterdam We took the 10 minute train ride from Weesp to Amsterdam. We then took the Tram to the Artis Zoo. After we walked through the city to Centraal station and took in the sights.

18: April 15th John and James arrive from snowy Alberta.

19: Boat ride through the canals in Weesp to Muiden | Some drove in a car or in a boat or on a bike

26: Biking to Den Haag on a beautiful Monday morning we biked through the dunes to Holland's third largest city.

29: The Mini Disco the girls all loved dancing every night to the dutch kid songs | Scheveningen After biking all day Albert, Jill and James head to Scheveningen for a drink | Collecting Shells

30: Amsterdam On the Tuesday afternoon we hopped the train to the Capital.

32: Beach Days | We had such beautiful weather the week in Kijkduin, some days over 30 degrees. It was no hardship that the bus drivers were on strike and we had to spend a day on the beach

36: Day in Scheveningen

38: Traveling across the Netherlands On the morning of Friday, April 22nd we packed up our houses in Kijkduin. Some traveled by cars, but there was not enough room for all. Oma, Lisa, Malinda, Ethan, Julia and Kailey took the bus to the Den Haag Train Station and jumped on the train to Steenwijk, then caught another bus to Havelte. We traveled across Holland!

39: Hesselte Recreatie Centrum We arrive Friday afternoon (Good Friday) on a resort in Havelte. Only minutes away from Opa Boer (Opa Opa). We rented bikes right away and took a bike ride to Opa Opa's park. Ava learnt to ride a two wheeler that evening.

41: 40th Wedding Anniversary

42: We had a beautiful hot day

44: Easter in Holland

45: We biked over the Heide to hangout and watch one of Sietse's Football games

46: John rides the Husqvarna dirt bike through the farmers field while the peanut gallery watches. The bike was hard to start, but Klein Andries makes it look easy. John touched the hot tailpipe with his leg and has the scar for a souvenir.

47: On Sunday the kids coloured Easter eggs and had a fun egg hunt. We biked to Sietse`s Football game in Wasperveen and hung around the van derVeen house. Then a quick trip to Giethoorn to find out how many people will fit into an army boat.

49: Everybody into the pool...

50: Tractor ride through Havelte

51: and a stop at the Hunebed

52: Biking from Hesselte to Steenwijk, about 10 km one way, for a day of sight-seeing, shopping and a picnic lunch. | A | A Trip to Steenwijk

53: Pictures start out with just a couple of people but more and more squeeze in... | We had a picnic lunch on top of the dike right by Onnastraat where the Boer family use to live.

55: Doing some fishing Holland Style | Roel and John meet up with Oom Jan to do some fishing in the river.

56: Ooievaars We visited a stork sanctuary where they come every year to build nests and have their babies

57: Expeditie Ecodrome Zwolle | Lisa and family had Dad drive them to Zwolle to visit the science center. Our camera was dropped shortly after we arrived, so we only have a few photos of our fun day. We took the train from Zwolle into Steenwijk where we had supper in the market square with Tina fast asleep. We had prearranged a pick-up time with Dad so he met up with us to take us back home.

58: Albert, James, Jill, Rinske and Roel went to Hasselt for a ride on Hermien and Johan's Sailboat and dinner at the De Herderin were Wouter works. It was a cool evening!

60: Meppel James, Albert, Jill, Malinda, Mike and Kailey biked 10 km to Meppel. Opa, Oma, Ethan and Ava met them there in the car. They shopped, ate paling and saw the garden store Roel used to work in.

61: Biking over Havelte After biking 20 km we biked over the beautiful shell biking trails of Havelte and stopped to play at the Hunebedden and climb a tree.

64: Mag ik een biertje hebben??? | We had such beautiful weather we were almost always outside.

65: In Hesselte we had four units all attached together, which worked for pretty much everything...

66: We love minigolf

67: April 30th Ethan went to Germany with Oma, Opa, tante Hennie and Oom Andries to checkout the new Boer and van der Veen building.

68: Queen's Dag - April 30th Major party in the Netherlands.

69: Orange Orange Everywhere!! A party in the streets of Meppel

70: There may have been dancing???

71: ZanZiBar A good time had by all!

73: Typically Dutch | Tip Toe Through the Tulips

74: As James catches his flight back to Canada Johan races his Punter around the lake taking 2nd Place

76: Fanfare in Giethoorn

77: Off to our Mansion in Wanneperveen

78: Bon Voyage Albert and Jill take the train to visit Brussels and Paris before flying home.

79: Michael and John go with Andries to Germany to check on Ruurd and their mighty machines

80: There was a wonderful bike trail between Wanneperveen and Giethoorn. We traveled it many times in that week. We especially enjoyed the bridges.

81: Into the Past Boat ride to show the grandkids the house where Oma was born.

82: The Tchirs go sailing with Hermien and Johan

83: We boated through the canals of Giethoorn. Stopped for kibbling and ice cream; then picked up groceries, all with the boat.

86: Wonderbar party

87: Thursday, May 7th The Tchirs head back to Canada

88: While Opa took the Tchirs to the airport, the Rudyks and Oma biked to Meppel. We had a picnic of kibbling and strawberries on the side of the fietspad. In the afternoon we boated to Blokzijl.

91: Sailing on the Boezelman boat (but there was no wind). We boated back to Hasselt for dinner in Hermien's backyard

92: May 7th - Leaving the Netherlands Andries and Annalotte drove the Rudyks to Schipol in the transporter bus. They flew out at 12:30 pm.

93: Roel and Rinske fly out the next day.
