FC: The Thompson Family.... 2011: A Year in Review

This year, like all others, was a very exciting year for the Thompson Family! Mommy was still working at the Brantford General Hospital and Daddy was working at Toyota in Woodstock. James was finishing his Kindergarten year in Senior Kindergarten at Doverwood Public School with Mrs. Peters as his teacher and Lucas was spending his days at the Calvary Daycare! At the beginning of 2011, James was playing Timbits hockey in Port Dover where he scored his first goal. Both boys were excited to start playing soccer in the summertime too! We were a very busy bunch this year! James would turn 6 years old on November 23 and Lucas would turn 3 on August 31. Marley was still a big part of our family and she LOVED playing with the boys. We took many day trips and a summer vacation in Toronto this year. So, here it is.....our year 2011 in REVIEW..........

Christmas 2010 | The kids were very excited for Christmas. Lucas asked Santa Claus to bring him a play kitchen, and James was hoping for a new wrestling ring and some wrestlers. It is a tradition in our house that the kids may open a present on Christmas Eve from Mom & Dad and whoever finds the "Pickle" decoration hidden in the tree, gets an extra present!

They had a great Christmas and Santa was very good to James and Lucas. They got lots of stuff and even a Quad that was parked on the deck from Nana & Poppa!

Winter Fun...... | We had a new pond behind our house that the boys enjoyed skating on! | Lucas was just learning to skate and James was trying to teach him! We also enjoyed tobogganing here too!

The Snowman....... | James and Lucas LOVE playing outside and couldn't wait to build a snowman. The snow was tricky this year. We didn't have very much packing snow, but when we finally got some, the snowman was built!

 HOCKEY.......HOCKEY.......HOCKEY.....HOCKEY......HOCKEY.....

James had sooo much fun playing Timbits Initiation Program this year. He was number 15 and learned to play in all of the positions. He traveled to Norwich, Hagersville and Simcoe to play and FINALLY scored his first goal on March 13, 2011. | My FIRST GOAL!

4 Wheelin' FUN! | James got a quad for Christmas from Nana & Poppa. He flipped it one time and then learned to be safe! He LOVED getting muddy in the field behind our house! Lucas loved it too!

Day trip to see the Tundra Swans & Wind Turbines.... | One Saturday, we decided to drive to Long Point to see if we could find any Tundra Swans that pass through every Spring. We found a few and then decided to continue on to Port Burwell to check out the wind turbines.....what a GREAT day!

Easter Egg Hunt..... | Ryerse Flower Shop in Simcoe hosts an annual Easter Egg Hunt for kids. Since Mommy had to work on Easter weekend this year, Daddy took the boys and they had SOOO much fun. They got lots of eggs and even saw the Easter Bunny himself!

James and Lucas were very excited to decorate some eggs for the Easter Bunny this year! They also got some special gifts...a new bike for Lucas hidden in the playset and some rollerblades for James in the deck box. The Easter Bunny had the boys go on a hunt too!!!! They enjoyed that!

James and Lucas both decided that they wanted to play soccer this summer. Lucas played on the Mini Mites Navy Blue Team with Coach Dave and some friends from Daycare. James played on Mighty Mites Gold with Coach Andrea. They both had lots of fun playing all summer long!

READY!!! | Soccer | HE SCORES | HE SHOOTS.....

The Back Yard was definitely a favourite spot for the boys to play this summer! Whether in the pool, on the trampoline or in the sandbox, they were always outside having TONS of fun! | FUN

This summer, we got a family membership to The Museum in Kitchener. The boys were thrilled to sit and watch the disection of a squid!!! Boy did it STINK!!!! But they found the teeth inside the squid! | THE MUSEUM

DAYCARE GRADUATION.... | After two and a half years at the Calvary Daycare, James was graduating!!! It brought tears to Mommy's eyes how much you have grown! | 2011 | James with Miss Eadie

James also graduated Kindergarten this year. For both JK and SK, he was lucky to have Mrs. Peters for his teacher. At the final assembly, the students were awarded with a certificate in their greatest strength and James received the READING AWARD! Mommy and Daddy were so proud of you for all of your hard work in Kindergarten! You worked very hard both years and were really becoming a great student! xoxo Mommy.

Out and About in Port Dover..... | With our busy schedules, we don't get a lot of time just to head down to the beach and hang out!!! This walk was on a beautiful day and the stroll on the beach turned into some WET fun for the boys!!!

We sometimes forget how lucky we are to live in a lakeside town. The boys love the beach and what better way to enjoy it than on a spontaneous walk!

CANADA DAY IN PORT DOVER.... | Marley gets in the spirit too! | James and Braden waiting... | Here comes the parade! | We enjoyed a busy day in our hometown celebrating Canada Day with the Simmons, Cryderman and Moore families!!!!

Splash Pad Fun! | Nothing like heading to the Simcoe Splash Pad on a hot summer day to cool off!!!

This Summer, we decided to spend some time in Toronto with the boys. We had a few ideas of some things that we wanted to do. To see the city best, we decided to get tickets to ride the Toronto Sightseeing double decker bus!!!! We saw parts of Toronto that we had never seen before. We made a few stops along the way to really be tourists. The boys really liked riding the bus! We stayed in a great hotel with a room that had a full serve kitchen complete with a dishwasher! It was fantastic! Nana and Poppa met us on our last day in Toronto to go to the Jays game!

 Casa Loma

Casa Loma took 3 years and 3.5 million dollars to build in 1911. Sir Henry Pellat owned the castle for only 10 years before he lost all of his money. It was a great day that we had exploring the castle and we even ventured through the 800 foot long tunnel that is 18 feet underground. We also climbed up to the tower and had a great view of Toronto!

Inside, we took the guided audio tour and were able to learn what each room was used for. The stories of Casa Loma were amazing and we learned a lot!

The tunnel was interesting and the stables were amazing! It was a great day of adventure!

Toronto Harbour Boat Cruise | Along with our bus passes, we got tickets to take a boat cruise to Toronto Islands. | It was neat to see Toronto from a different view. We went right past the Island Airport, the Island Marina and some of the cottage areas too.

The Toronto Blue Jays were playing the New York Yankees on Junior Jays Saturday! Lucas fell asleep, but James was lucky to run the bases after the game with the other kids at the game!

SOAP BOX DERBY CAR...... | James & Jerell at the starting line! | The starting line | Ready to race! | Bobby and James decided to finally make James a Soap Box Derby car for the Simcoe Friendship Festival race this year. The made it look like Francesco Bernourlli from Cars 2. It was fantastic! James and Jerell practiced together one night and had a great crash but they were ready for the big day. About 20 kids showed up in Simcoe only to find out that the Kinsmen had decided to cancel the event at the last minute. Not wanting to disappoint the kids, some parents blocked off the road and the kids raced down for fun! James can't wait until next summer when he is old enough to race in some more races!

FROG JUMPING CONTEST!!!!! | The Jarvis Cornfest holds a frog jumping contest every year and the boys LOVE frogs so we decided to enter. The night before, we went searching for frogs with Nana, Uncle Dan and Duncan. Duncan caught 4 frogs for them to use! Each frog was placed on stage on the "X" and squirted with water and the first jump was measured. Both of the boys named their frogs. James had Mustang and Lucas had Hoppy. They both did well. Lucas actually won Second Prize for his age group! There were many escaping frogs at that event!!!!!

Weekend in Sarnia | We hit the road for a weekend in August and headed out to Sarnia to spend some time with Ruby, Nicky and Max. We hadn't had a chance to see their new house so we were very excited to see it and spend some time with them! The boys had a blast at the park with Ruby after some ice cream. We went down by the border bridge and the kids played at the park and then we walked to the water and watched some crazy kids jump into the river!

We went to a farm in Sarnia on a bit of a wet day but it was well worth it!!! It was free and open for the kids to wander around and pet and feed the animals. Lucas loved the sheep and goats that were roaming free to be chased! We even were lucky enough to see a new lamb being bottle fed by a worker at the farm. Overall, it was a great weekend with the Cryderman family and we enjoyed our time in Sarnia!

Outdoor Summer Fun! | Every Summer, all of the churches in Simcoe put on an outdoor family fun event. We decided to go this year and the kids had a blast! They had potato sack races, marshmallow shooting, bouncy castles, and many more games and prizes for the kids to collect...and it was all FREE!!!

MARLEY | Our Family Yearbook would not be complete without a page dedicated to our dog Marley! She is 7 years old now and a real part of our family! xoxo

Lucas is 3!!!! | Lucas turned 3 this year and we decided to have our family and friends over for cake and ice cream and then some fireworks! It was a HIT!!!! He had soooo much fun! We let off a special birthday hot air balloon at the end too!

We played pin the wheel on the quad and had a scavenger hunt around the yard! | The kids whacked at a pinata that we had made to get the loot for their loot bags!

James and Lucas were the ringbearers for the wedding. They had a blast! | It was a beautiful day. The ceremony was at Knox and the reception was at the Rec Centre in Simcoe.

Norfolk County Fair This year, the weather was so warm for the Norfolk County Fair. Daddy was working afternoon shift, so Mommy, Nana, James and Lucas went to the Monster Truck show on the Thursday night. It was cool! Mommy, James and Lucas got up early the next morning and spent the day at the fair so the boys could use their ride bracelets. Daddy met us for lunch and stayed with us for a few hours before he had to go back to work. James and Lucas went on SO many rides that day....Nemo, the cars, the boats, the mirror maze, the rollercoaster, but their most favourite was the Funhouse!!! They LOVED that ride!!! This year, the biggest pumpkin weighed 1426 lbs and may have set a world record! We went and saw it and the animals too. Our favourite food at the fair was the pogos! It was a great year at the Norfolk County Fair...can't wait until next year!

Fall Fun! | Waterloo Park on Thanksgiving

Happy Halloween | This year, we went to Niagara to a Halloween Adventure Farm. We watched some shows, went for a wagon ride, bounced on the giant hay pillow, did some pumpkin slingshots and rode on a few of the train rides. The kids had a great time and it was a beautiful day.

Happy Halloween..... For Halloween this year, James wanted to be Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean and Lucas wanted to be a skeleton. Before we went out trick-or-treating on Halloween Night, we went into Port Ryerse to see the Headless Horseman. He comes to Port Ryerse every Halloween and rides through the village handing out candy if you are brave enough to get close to him. Both of the boys got close enough to get some candy from him. James even had his picture in the Simcoe newspaper. After, we went back to our house and trick-or-treated around the neighbourhood. It ended up raining so we had a short night but the boys got plenty of loot.

James turned 6 years old this year on November 23 and we had his party on Saturday Nov.26 at our house. He chose some friends from his class to come over to our house for a Pirate Party! They played "Pin the Patch on the Pirate," "hook the candy canes," pass the treasure and even hunted for gold coins and a pirate treasure outside! They had pizza for dinner and played for a while. It was a great time!

A hole in my SMILE! | After having a wiggly tooth for almost 2 months, James finally lost his first tooth on Saturday Dec. 3. We were in the car on our way home from the Santa Sale when it popped out! He left it inside a box underneath his pillow and asked the Tooth Fairy to leave it. She left the tooth along with 2 Toonies and a Loonie! Lucky James!

This year, James started out in the TimBit program again, but got bumped up to Tyke after his first practice. He is playing on Tyke Red and the team travels to Langton, Tillsonburg, Simcoe, Delhi and Norwich. They haven't gotten many wins so far but are having fun! Daddy is helping coach. The Head Coach for the Team is Ryan Vandenbussche who used to play in the NHL. James had the chance to play goalie but decided it wasn't for him.
