FC: The Abolitionist Times | The Battle of Stone's River This battle lasted for three days, from December 31st,1862 to January 2nd,1863. It was fought in Tennessee near Stone's river. On the Union's side a total of 12,906 men were killed, wounded, captured, or missing. On the Confederate side, the total was 11,739 death or wounded men. The union was led by Maj. Gen. William S. Rosecrans. The Confederate troops were led by General Braxton Braggs. The Union won the battle. | William S. Rosecrans Braxton Braggs

1: John Brown | John Brown, an American abolitionist, was charged with the murder of five pro-slavery southerners. He was hung on December 2nd 1859 at the age of fifty nine. John Brown was buried in North Elba, New York.
