The Silurian (443.7 to 416.0 million years ago)
The Silurian Period was a very interesting period because of the plants, animals and weather that existed then. It was very cold and they still survived. The Silurian reptiles were so interesting that books and television shows like Doctor Who were made about them. I would love to see the show and get more ideas about the Silurians.
The Silurian period follows the Ordovician period from the Paleozoic era. The Silurians were reptiles, who began to exist before 443.0 to 416.0 years ago and lasted for almost 26 million years. Silurians are named after an ancient Celtic tribe that lived in Wales where geological evidence was found. Silurians lived in the southern hemisphere. They lived in modern day Australia where it was located near the South Pole
The climate during the Silurian reptile period was very tough for human life. The climate during that time was very cold. There was an active volcano where the Silurian reptile lived. When the Silurians began to exist the weather became warmer and warmer.
During the Silurian there were lots of weird animals one of the interesting was the arthraquad they have a strong outer shell called exoskeleton arthraquads have segemented bodies and appendages arthraquads during the Silurian included millipedes jawless fish for the first time were seen in the Silurian next to it.
Plants were also interesting during the Silurian period. Vascular plants were first seen. Vascular plants were known as rhinophytes to grow above land one example is cooksinia a small plant without leaves, seeds, and roots. Plant life was food for animals that lived outside of water.
