Doug, Sheron, Les, Pamie, Marggie (Mom) and Ron on our Alaskan vacation of a lifetime, September 2010. We now belong to the 30% club. We saw Mt. McKinley (in background).
August 28, 2010 Early morning, Mom and Ron departed Denver, Colorado, and Pam and Les departed Charleston, SC. Sheron and Doug departed Augusta GA at 6:25am on Delta Airlines. Their best friend, Sandy, transported them to the airport and provided a loving send off to the greatest vacation ever! Doug and Sheron arrived in Atlanta, GA, and transferred to a flight to Vancouver, BC. surprised at the size of the airplane. Very small for an international flight. Doug and Sheron arrived in Vancouver, BC, on time; and met Mom and Ron at the airport waiting area. All were transported to the Pan Pacific Hotel via taxi. The ride was comfortable. Doug talked with the driver and learned about his Russian heritage and why he lived and will die in Vancouver. Arrived safely at the hotel shortly before lunch to see an amazing view of the surrounding areas. We had lunch in the hotel restaurant and started to our rooms for an afternoon rest. As we approached the hotel lobby elevators, we were surprised to see Les and Pam. Now the gang is all here; and we are ready to begin our two week Alaskan vacation. Early evening for Mom and Ron. Pam and Les participated in a trolley ride of Stanley Park. Doug and Sheron explored the Riverfront shops and had a Subway salad and sushi for dinner. Great day!

Our cruise ship the Ms. Ryndam docked at the Pan Pacific hotel awaiting our embarkment. She provided a comfortable and fun atmosphere for the first week of our vacation. Our cabin stewart, YaYat,was so friendly and took very good care of our room and kept the ice bucket (a wine bucket) full. | Pam and Les joined us at the Pan Pacific Hotel. This photo was taken during our tour of Stanley Park.
Views from the hotel and of the City of Vancouver were beautiful. The temperatures in the mid-45s to 60s. Very comfortable when we had spent 3 months of 100 degree temperatures in South Carolina.

August 29, 2010 Early to rise. Luggage forwarded to the Ryndam Ship. All met at riverfront diner for a great breakfast. Doug had a breakfast bowl that everyone just had to taste. Fun. Met in the lobby for the Vancouver City Tour that was provided by our vacation package. City Tour was very informative and a personal view of Stanley Park. Great tour and the guide was a native of the area. Very informative. Returned to the Pan Pacific Hotel to be processed to board the Ms Ryndam. The guard at the customs counter grabbed Doug’s passport. We think his actions were due to the shirt that Doug was wearing. The American flag and eagle, we assume we were not likable to him. Anyway, we made it through customs, boarded the ship, and headed to the Lido deck for lunch. Very crowded. Met our Cabin Stewart, YaYat. He said that his wife gave birth to their son two days ago and that he has a three year old daughter. He showed us a picture of his daughter. We congratulated him on the birth of his son and began a great friendship for the week ahead. YaYat was terrific, so helpful and always there to keep our accommodations clean and provide ice upon Mr. Doug’s beckon call.
August 30, 2010 Day at Sea. Our state rooms were so wonderful. Full size bathrooms, queen size beds, sofa and TV, with a large door to the balcony. With side-by-side state rooms, it was easy to communicate with each other, especially Doug and Les early in the mornings. We were on the starboard side (right side) of the boat, so land views were constant. Mountains with snow tops and small lights of homes on the sea shores as we slowly cruised the inside passage.
Formal Dinner night at the Pinnacle Club.....
August 31, 2010 We docked at the city of Ketchican, AK. Even with the down pour of rain, fly fishing (catch and release) was challenging, but enjoyed. Doug caught the "dead one", but it gave him a real good fight. Les was the fisherman of the day with catching four fish. Ron and Pam caught one or two also. | Pam fishing !! | Les, fisherman of the day!

As we cruised towards Seward, AK, this was our last day on the Ms Ryndam. Of course the beautiful scenery continued. WOW !! We were preparing to debark at Seward at 8am tomorrow. Wonderful cruise! Now to say good-bye to the staff and get all of those clothes back into our suitcases..... ! | All week we enjoyed our dinners with Dovi and Herman, our outstanding waiters. During one of our delicious dinner services, Dovi shared with Doug a couple of really cool puzzles with toothpicks. We also expressed appreciation to YaYat, our cabin steward, for his perfect and very enjoyable towel animals and professional service all week.

Four-wheeling....rainy, but we are here for the FUN !! | Cabin night dinner and show. Our waiter was named Joe; and when we wanted more food, we all had to yell his name. The table captain was Sheron, who led the yelling.
September 11, 2010 Exceptional day on the train ride to Fairbanks, AK. Beautiful weather, lots of sunshine. We enjoyed delicious meals and cocktails during the ride, and then a afternoon walk around town to the river park. We saw a beautiful Northern Light show in the evening. We spent time in the hotel lobby waiting for our transportation to the airport. We played cards, watched some TV, and shared memories of our wonderful two weeks together.
