4: 3 | Animals | Earning the animal badge is lots of fun no matter where you go, but I recommend the San Antonio Zoo. There, you can spend the night with the animals through the "Roars and Snores" program. It includes an animal presentation, a night tour, a bedtime snack and movie, a special keeper presentation and a day to explore the zoo as a troop. They even serve breakfast! This activity will help earn the Animal Try-It with 2. Understanding Animals. | Price: $35.00 per person (This is for groups of 20-40, but there is also a single sign-up option for the same price called "Open Roars and Snores.") Link: Time: 6:30 pm to 8:30 am | While you are at the zoo, also try 4. Looks Mean Something | (Page in TRY-ITS Book: 86)

5: 4 | Water Everywhere | A great place to earn the "Water Everywhere" badge, and the "Water Drop Patch," is at Edward's Aquifer. There, you can participate in an educational scavenger hunt to learn about the importance of protecting our freshwater resources. Our troop had lots of fun exploring the area and then stayed afterwards to work on activities from the TRY-ITS book, like 5. Water Explorer. | Price: Free! Link: Be sure to click on the EPA's PDF page to print your scavenger hunt. Contact Information: Sara Heilman, City of Austin Watershed Protection: 974.2550 | (Page in TRY-ITS Book: 142)

6: 5 | To earn your Listening to the Past badge, I would recommend a visit to the Oakwood Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in Austin. West Oaks Nursing Home, where our troop volunteered while earning our bronze award, is the perfect place to complete the Community Stories requirement of the badge. While visiting there, we spoke with many people with stories to tell, including one woman who knew Austin close to eighty years ago, a girl scout herself at the time. Call ahead to arrange a visit with any of the numerous nursing homes in Austin. | Oakwood Cemetery: Price: Location:1601 Navasota Street, Austin, TX Phone: (512) 478-7152 West Oaks: Location: 3200 West Slaughter Lane Phone: (512) 282- 0426 email: website: | Listening to the Past
