1: Castanets are a musical instrument that you play by using your hands. They are a percussion instrument and are part of the idiophone family. Castanets are used for many different types of music, and they are: 1) Moorish 2) Ottoman 3) Ancient Roman 4) Italian 5) Spanish 6) Portuguese 7) Latin American When the castanets are being played they make a rhythmic clicking sound. This is because they are made from concave shells joined together at the end by string.
