BC: Ben called his Aunt Fay, the one who was against the marriage in the first place. She knew Larry had a violent history and expecting something bad, but not this bad. She told Ben to stay with his mom while went for help. Ben listened to her advice and went to his moms room.

FC: Searching for Safety By: Ben McKee

1: Ben McKee's mom decides to get married to Larry. Aunt Fay and Ben warn her that it is too soon, since she only knew him for 4 months. Everybody in the neighborhood except for Ben's mom knows Larry has a violent history. They won't get a chance to tell her though because the day after the marriage the new family moves into their new house.

2: The first time Ben's step dad hit him was the day after the family moved into the new house. Ben was sitting on the couch when Larry came in to talk to him. Larry demanded Ben to stay in his room the majority of the time so he didn't have to deal with him. When Ben complained Larry immediately began to choke him. "Don't you ever talk back to me." He aggressively said before he let Ben go.

3: As the days went on the abuse worsened. Larry would Ben for talking to him or looking at him in a way he didn't like. He would sometimes hit Ben when he was angry for no apparent reason. No matter what Ben did he wasn't safe. This abuse left bruises and scars on his body. Teachers asked Ben what was going on but he was afraid to tell them the truth.

4: At school Ben's friends began to notice his bruises. The students of his new school Blueford High School would make fun of him. Making up jokes about how he got those scars. No matter what anyone said at the school Ben wouldn't tell anybody he was getting abused by his stepfather.

5: Just when Ben thought things couldn't get worse they did. One day Larry got extremely drunk and hit Ben's mom. In fear that the beating would get worse she didn't call the cops or tell anybody. As Larry continued drinking day after day the abuse to both Ben and his mom grew worse. Ben had to step up and do something or his mom and him could possibly be killed.
