FC: Imperialism | -a policy of extending your rule over foreign countries. -a political orientation that advocates imperial interests. -any instance of aggressive extension of authority.
2: The Spanish | Theodore Roosevelt marched his troops up to San Juan hill, where after a brutal battle, the Spaniards surrendered. | The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on December 10, 1898.
3: American War | The war started on April 25, 1898 | It started because of the sinking of the Battleship Maine in Havana harbor on February 15, 1898.
5: Canal | The Canal was built because instead of going all the way down to south America and back up, the Canal connected the Pacific and Atlantic. The Canal was built in 1878 and was lead by Ferdinand de Lesseps. This canal saved time and travel casualties.
6: Open Door | In 1898, Secretary of State John Hay helped prepare the Treaty of Paris, which ended the Spanish-American War.
7: Policy | In the following year he announced the Open Door policy, which demanded that European powers controlling portions of China grant equal access to the United States.
8: BOXER | Austria, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and Russia all claimed exclusive trading rights to certain parts of China. American businesses hoped to take advantage of China's vast resources.
9: REBELLION | In the early months of 1900, thousands of Boxers roamed the countryside. They attacked Christian missions, slaughtering foreign missionaries and Chinese converts.Nervous foreign ministers insisted that the Chinese government stop the Boxers
10: The Spanish American War was important to America because first of all the one, and second America took most of the Spanish property and took Cuba over also. | The Panama Canal allowed the U.S. to save time and casualties to travel from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
11: The Open-door policy opened new raw materials fro America since they were exposed to different parts of China now. | The Boxer Rebellion helped Americans because as China was going through a rebellion American businesses hoped to take advantage of China's vast resources.

13: Roosevelt believed in wars, and that is the way to be powerful. He believed that the more powerful your country is the better
14: Although imperialism brought the U.S. new materials and goods and introduced us to easy and better ways of life, it had it's faults.
15: Were against imperialism because if we fully relied on other countries then they have complete control over us.
