2: John Steinbeck He has written around thirty books. That includes novels, autobiographies, and short stories.
3: Mr. Steinbeck was born is the small town of Salina on the west side of the U.S. Twenty-five miles from the Pacific Coast on a moist,fertile valley, he got many settings for his fictitious books. He attended the University of Stanford for six years, leaving without an degree. In New York he was a laborer and journalist for five years. The year of 1929 gave him the joy of working on Cup of Gold. All through the years, he published many novels and short stories. John became a filmmaker and a student of marine biology. The book, Bombs Away was inspired by his services in war in 1942. Steinbeck wrote The Pearl in 1947. He won a Nobel Prize in 1962. The intelligent author died in 1968.
4: La Paz, Mexico is the novel's setting. Kino's people were Indian, while the doctor was a wealthy, Spaniard. The indigent people lived in brush houses. All the houses covered in bougainvillea or made of brick were home to the rich.

10: Chapter One After Kino went in for breakfast something very frightening happened. Juana and Kino spotted a scorpion clinging to the baby's hanging box. Kino sneakily tried to go get it. Before he could reach it, the scorpion fell on Coyotitio's shoulder. It stung the baby. As neighbors gathered around, the parents took him through the town to the doctor. The servant left them with the bad news that the doctor couldn't see Coyotitio.
11: Chapter Two Juana and Kino took his canoe out onto the water. | They were looking for pearls to help Coyotito. Kino went down to put oysters in his basket. He saw a large own by itself underwater. He thought it could be special. Kino brought it up to the boat with his wife. Saving it for last, he finally opened it. There lay a great pearl.
12: Chapter Three The news traveled fast that Kino had found the Pearl Of the World. The doctor was informed and suddenly wanted to help. He went to their house and offered his assistance. The doctor gave Coyotito a pill, and that made him very sick. | When he came back, he said the bay's poison was fought. the news was that Coyotito will begin to get well. During the night, Kino felt a sense of evil and knew someone was trying to take the pearl. He grabbed hid knife and swung it around. He ended up with a cut on the forehead. Juana thinks the pearl is a sin.
13: Chapter Four Kino and his family and neighbors got all dressed up to bring the pearl of the world to the pearl buyers. Everyone was in hope of a high price. The first buyer told them the pearl was something like fools gold. Two different buyers told Kino it was not a a pearl. he decided he would go to the capital. That night Kino stepped outside and got slashed across his face. Juana believes evil is in the pearl. Kino insist she believes him and follows him to the capital.
14: Chapter Five Juana woke up Kino late in the night, trying to the pearl into the sea. He stopped her. The "dark ones" attacked again, and knocked the pearl out of Kino's hands. He killed the stranger and his wife found the pearl lying in the path. As morning was growing near, Kino told her to go get the baby and they will leave. The "dark ones" set a fire to their brush house. The family hid in his brother's home. That morning, Kino and his family set North on a journey to get away.
15: Chapter Six They walked all night, staying away from the town. When morning came, Kino saw the three trackers. He knew they we would be there by evening. They traveled to the mountains. After reaching water, they hid in a cave. Kino leaves to get the rifle between the tracker's knees. Coyoitito begins to cry and the strangers think it is a coyote and fires the gun. It kills the baby. Kino and Juana return to the town with dead bundle. The pearl sinks back down to the bottom of the sea.
16: The moral of the The Pearl is that you can not trust your eyes. Kino thought the large, beautiful pearl was going to change is life with a positive outcome. It turned into evil and ruined their life. The evilness caused Coyotito to be killed. The novel teaches us to not go by what your eyes tell you.
