Suwannee River State Park January 2011 Skidaway Island Savannah Georgia March 2011 | 1 | Gamble Rogers State Park Flagler Beach June 2011 & September 2011 | White Oak Creek Campground Eufaula, Alabama July 2011 | Devil's Fork State Park South Carolina October 2011

Way, down upon the Suwannee River | Our first camping trip of 2011 took us back to the River. It was cold, but not as bad as last time! We had Mason and the Gibson's had a brand new diesel pusher that needed a bigger place to park!

We spent one afternoon hiking through the backwoods. The water was SO low and the trees were SO big. Mason lucked out with a free ride on the way back.

What is it about little boys and sticks? | January 2011 Suwannee River State Park

The | We always have WAY too much food....and it is ALWAYS so good.... even the oysters.... or so they say! | Lookout bad guys!!

Skidaway Island in Savannah, Georgia | Our first trip to Skidaway was fun! A beautiful park, it was about 5 miles from downtown Savannah. This was the final trip for the Rockwood.....see ya! Lots of bike rides, fires and wonderful weather made this trip a great one! It was St. Patrick's Day weekend, however, so we did have a few unusual sights to see in town... like green water, lots of green hair and very unusual clothes! | March 17-20, 2011

 Day Trip!

 March 2011

May 31 - June 4 was our first real trip in the Outback to our favorite beach campground, Gamble Rogers. What a blessing to be able to get a spot there so we could try out the new home on wheels! The sun was hot, the a/c was freezing, the food was good and a trip to Orlando where we visited IKEA and ate at the Lobster Feast was fabulous. God is so good and we are so thankful! | Stayed in Ocala for 2 nights in New Outback May 2011

Eufaula, Alabama July 24 - 31, 2011 | We found this campground just down the road from Mary and Butch's house in Eufaula and knew it was one we wanted to visit. Our campers were parked right next to the water, a HUGE lake/river that travels as far south as the Gulf of Mexico. Arnnie and Anna brought their boat and we really enjoyed this week at the lake.

Boating Adventures on Lake Eufaula | The water was very shallow at the campground, so several days we took the boat out and swam in 80' water! | July 2011

Anna decided to swim to shore, and I think she would have made it if she'd continued! Jeff will never forget his famous "frog dive" Jan had a "God-Wink" moment....she had looked all over the camper for a rubber band for her hair, and that very day, we found one on the anchor when we pulled it up! WOW

Mary and Butch came over Monday night for supper around the fire, and were kind enough to have us to their house for ribs on Wednesday! A day trip took us by Georgia's Grand Canyon, a small State Park not far from our camp!

On one of our day trips we visited the Infantry Museum at Fort Benning. It was a "walk through the wars" museum, with life sized displays, equipment, photo's, maps and descriptions of battles. There was a room dedicated to each of America's wars, and in the WWII room, we found a display for the Division that Jeff's dad was in, the 43rd Infantry. Arnnie's newest toy, an I-Pad, made an electronic version of Monopoly little pieces to keep up with! Still don't know who won the game..... | July 2011

Our Favorite Gamble Rogers State Park Flagler Beach Florida September 2011

If we had to choose a favorite park in Florida, I think we would all vote for this one. The beach is right outside the door and the inland waterway is right across the road. Bike rides, swimming, fishing, reading, football, resting and great all spells camping at Gamble Rogers in September! This was the first time we didn't eat out, instead we picked grilled shrimp....yummy! Anna caught a mess of fish, but they were a bit small to keep! We stayed an extra day this was WONDERFUL.

For the first time in a LONG time we changed our November trip to October just so we could see some leaves in full color! Of course, that meant that we totally messed up the usual hunting weekend for the boys, but they were good to agree. As a last minute plan, we decided to leave a few days early and stop by Statesboro for them to hunt opening weekend. They had found a road-side camp about 25 miles from town, so we stayed there 3 nights, the boys hunted 3 times (no deer) and then it was on to SC mountains! | Lookin' for Leaves October 2011 Statesboro and Devil's Fork

What a great campground! We had considered 3 or 4 located on SC 11 and we decided on this one! Good Pick! It was quiet, almost completely canopied with trees that were just beginning to change color and fall. . We had a beautiful fire every night of course, and we were centrally located so we could visit other areas easily.

Devils Fork State Park provides the only public access to Lake Jocassee, a 7,500-acre reservoir tucked deep into the Blue Ridge. The fishing was not so good from shore, but the water was very clear! Our camping neighbor was visiting his son for the week, they went out in his boat each day to look for bear and saw one swimming in the lake! | October 2011

You may have found your thrill on Blueberry Hill, but we found ours on Devil's Fork Road. From the boat launch all the way back to the picnic area we almost FLEW on our bikes. One ride turned into was a bit easier due to leaving a car at one end and taking the bikes back UP the hill in the back of the truck! So sorry we waited until the last day to find this "thrill"!

 Waterfall Wonders | October 2011

We found so many great waterfalls within 30 miles of Devil's Fork. The curvy roads made the ride seem longer, but the scenery was beautiful. God surely created a fabulous world.

The Blue Ridge Parkway | We spent one day riding the Blue Ridge and looking at the mountains from tree-top level! We rode from Brevard over to Asheville, had an early supper at the Japanese Steak House and then finished the loop back to the campground. The highest elevations had snow and ice and Jeff found a "cool car" on a lookout.

Last Trip for 2011.....October in the Mnts!
