S: Orlando, FL and Caribbean Cruise - May 6 - 17, 2008
FC: Orlando, Florida Nassau, Bahamas St. Thomas, USVI St. Martin, Netherlands Antilles May 6 - 17, 2008
Day 1: May 6, 2008 Today I left on my holiday to Orlando and the Caribbean. I went with Vivian and Rizal Reyes, the Tablante family, the Rosales family, Joven Bautista and Lisa Maruska. Funny story behind this trip - I was supposed to go with the Reyes' son John who I had been dating, but we had broken up shortly after booking the trip. I still wanted to go and asked his family if they minded, and with no objections I went without him and had a great time.
We arrived in Orlando quite late. We took a shuttle to our rental van and then drove to our rental condo at Lucaya Village.
Day 2: May 7, 2008 Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure | Our first big day was spent at Universal Studios. Since there are two sides to the theme park, we took our time and spent a half day on each side.
The first half we explored was the original Universal Studios | And off we go!!!
Other than seeing a few cartoon characters and going on a few rides, including Jaws and the new Simpson's ride, there wasn't much to do in the first half of the park. After lunch we headed to the other side.
The second side of the theme park was called Islands of Adventure. Here we had more fun with the rides, park decorations, and we saw quite a bit more characters.
Ariel and I went on the Hulk roller coaster. You can see us in the middle picture third row from the top on the left.
In the Islands of Adventure we ran into many of our favorite superheroes: Cyclops, Storm and Rogue, Wolverine, Spiderman, and Captain America
Our last stop before calling it a day was the Dr. Seuss village. | It was definitely a busy day, but a fun start to our holiday!
Day 3: May 8, 2008 Our second day in Orlando was spent enjoying the sights at DisneyWorld. | We chose three of the seven theme parks to visit. Our first stop was Epcot.
Before we even entered the main area of Epcot, we saw many beautiful plant sculptures. We even saw Nick Lachey filming a show for Disney!
We began our journey at Mexico, where we walked on by and headed towards Norway to check out the Viking sights. We even stopped for a photo with Mary Poppins.
Our next stop was China. This area had a beautiful temple and a traditional Chinese Bonsai tree. In the gardens surrounding the temple was a display of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs.
Then we made our way to my favorite country - Germany!! They had a sign for Oktoberfest, traditional Nutcrackers and beautiful buildings. We also saw a few more Disney plant sculptures.
Our next three quick destinations were Italy, the United States and Japan. In Japan we stopped for a brief drums demonstration.
Before leaving Epcot we found where many of the Disney characters were hiding. Definitely a good photo op!
Our second theme park of the day was Hollywood Studios. We arrived just in time for the afternoon parade, and then made our way through the areas of the park.
After lunch we stopped to watch an Indiana Jones demonstration and stunts show.
Our final theme park of the day was the Magic Kingdom. We stopped to take pictures with the Disney princesses and to watch the parade and fireworks at the end of the day.
Day 4: May 9, 2008 Our last day in Orlando was a relaxing one. We went shopping at a few of the outlet malls around town and then in the afternoon we lounged by the pool. In the evening the remaining members of our group arrived and took advantage of the hot tub at the hotel. L to R: Joven, Lisa, Amy and Jordan
Day 5: May 10, 2008 Today we began our Caribbean Cruise on the Carnival Glory. When we boarded the ship we got a picture taken of our group, minus Lisa who had put her passport into her luggage and had to go below deck to find it.
Our group: Back L to R: Joven, Amy, Deanna, Vivian, Rizal, Ariel and Shelley Front L to R: Jordan, Alexis, Gaby, Thea Missing: Les and Lisa
First moments on board the ship - lunch and checking out the room with Joven and Lisa.
Our first dinner aboard the ship | The porter turned down the beds and made us a scorpion!
Day 6: May 11, 2008 Today we made our first island stop on Nassau, Bahamas. Although in retrospect it would have been nice to see Atlantis, the optional excursion we signed up for was a pleasant island tour.
After the tour, we headed back to the ship to get ready for our first formal dinner. We got dressed up nice and fancy and headed to the dining hall. Then, when we returned to our room to get ready to go dancing we found an elephant waiting for us on the bed
Day 7: May 12, 2008 Today was a fun day at sea. We laid by the pool and drank pina coladas out of coconuts. In the afternoon we had a friendly game of Bingo where I won $50!
In the evening we took it easy. We explored the ship and found this interesting red room. We were also greeted by a puppy when we returned to our room.
Day 8: May 13, 2008 Our second port of call was St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. It was absolutely beautiful. We began with a bus tour and a stop at the beach.
Next stop: Blackbeard's Castle and pirate walking tour
Back on board the ship, Lisa, Shelley and I went for coffee and watched the sunset. After dinner Lisa and I checked out the hypnotist show and then found a dinosaur waiting in our room.
Day 9: May 14, 2008 Today we had our final port of call in St. Martin, Netherlands Antilles. We did a quick island bus tour to the French side where we stopped at a marketplace, then back to the Dutch side for the beach!
Tonight was an interesting evening. At dinner, Jordan and Ariel told the waiter it was my birthday so they sang to me, I had my picture taken with a showgirl, I got back to my room to see our towel sloth and then we went out dancing!
Day 10: May 15, 2008 Today was another day at sea and our second formal dinner. We also found a frog in our room and Shelley found a monkey in hers.
Tonight was also the night of the Gala Buffet.
Day 11: May 16, 2008 Today was another lazy day at sea. We hung out, enjoyed the weather and took pictures as the sun went down. We followed that up with some dancing and karaoke before calling it a night.
Day 12: May 17, 2008 Today we arrived back in Port Canaveral and headed to the airport. We had a fun trip and were sad to see it end, but at least the weather was great in Calgary too!
