As a dog lover this picture means a lot to me. What is interesting about this picture is that soldiers brought dogs to the civil war grounds. In this picture was Lieutenant George Custer in 1862. One year later, at the age of 23, he would be leading Wolverines as a Brigadier General. I know i would bring my dog "Zeus" with me to the battles.
These were two unidentified Civil War Soldiers. All we know about them is that they were brothers. When I found out that they were brothers it made me realize that there are many siblings in the war together. How difficult and sad for their families. I am posed here with my sibling and would prefer her to be safe at home if i were ever in a war.
This is a picture of two African American union soldiers. They were anxious to join the fight against slavery, because they believed that military service would allow them to prove their rights to equality. Seeing two African Americans fighting in the civil war caught my eye because that was rare to see black people being allowed to fight.
This picture is a body of a confederate soldier. This picture makes me sad because it symbolizes how many died for his/her country.
This is a portrait of Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. As a General he fought a series of battles and was promoted to Major General after forcing the surrender of a large Confederate army and gaining control of Kentucky and most of Tennessee. He then led Union forces to victory in the Battle of Shiloh, earning a reputation as an aggressive commander. I like this photo because it shows his emotional state and how Strong and focused he was.
