FC: My Better than Dream House Whitney-McWillialms 1996-2007

My Better Than Dream House I say this because even in my wildest dreams, I never thought that I would live in such a beautiful house with a pool. Another surprise was the location of the house which turned out to be right next door to our friends, Jan and Gus Kious. What made this so remarkable was that we had lived next door to them in our first house on Bellfield Rd. There were wonderful times in this house with Jim and I and our two sons, Chris and Jeff. Lots of gatherings, parties and holidays were celebrated here with lots of room for everyone. The landscaping and gardens were a continual delight as they changed with the seasons and the years. My family was blessed to have made a home here at 12545 Cedar Rd, Cleveland Hts, Ohio from 1996 through 2007

The house was built in 1922 by renowned Cleveland architect Howell after he lived and studied in Rome. The home was designed after the Italian villa and he and his family lived in the home for many years. Everywhere you looked there was a special touch that added elegance, style and balance to the house.

Our winters were filled with lots of snow so we stayed inside and enjoyed the fire.

One winter we had loads of snow. The boys threw snowballs off the deck.

I loved being in our family room and have all the windows covered with the snow on all the branches of the trees.

Spring came and with it the promise of life beginning anew and the anticipation of the flowers blooming.

My Mother's Day rhododendron was a beautiful pink and the forsythia so bright.

The weeping cherry is in bloom and the spring flowers are just beginning to show their color

Lilacs and Iris' stood at the corner filling the air with their fragrance

Spring gives way to Summer as the yard bursts into a glorious abundance of flowering color | I liked the house in all seasons but summer was my favorite. Everything was lush and green

The sun room was glorious with the large picture windows

Jim was a gourmet cook and prepared delicious meals. We loved to entertain for New Years Eve, holidays and special events for the boys.

Our family ate most of its meals in the breakfast room. It was cozy and pretty with a Butlers Pantry. I loved the cupboard on the wall to display my glass and china.

We spent a great deal of time in the family room watching TV, having parties and eating meals

Off the family room was a large bathroom with a greenhouse window looking out on the deck.

Our bedroom was so peaceful. We had huge windows in all the rooms of the house letting breezes flow in.

From the balcony outside our bedroom I could look down and see the pool and flowers and feel separate from the world with my trees all around

We had two guest rooms, a master bedroom and a study on the second floor

The study had French doors that opened out onto a small balcony | It was so easy to relax in this room with breezes coming in through the window and French Doors

We had the wrought iron gate between our property and the neighbors restored. | Jim and the boys laid the stones in front of the gate

Summer was my favorite time of year and cooling off in our wonderful pool was incredible!

The deck was a favorite place for meals and get to-gethers during the summer. Jim would grill and we would love being outdoors.

Chris laid the stone patio area by the front door

Jim and boys loved playing pool. | The Rec Room was a great place for the boys and their friends to hang out.

The rec room led out to a slate patio with hot tub. We used the hot tub even when it was snowing out.

Fall was so colorful around our house. Mums were all over the front yard making a big splash

Crisp air, blue skies and fall color were all around us. With so many trees we had alot of leaves to rake. It was a family project to get it all done.

I give great thanks for my dear husband Jim who made this home possible. He always wanted us to be happy and worked hard to ensure we were. He was a craftsman and an artist and loved to plan and be creative with our home.

A view from across the street. The driveway was lined with Rose of Sharon bushes that bloomed profusely each summer.

Our family Jim, Kitty, Jeff, Chris
