S: Eastern Europe

BC: All good trips must come to an end but then you just start planning the next one!

Austria Czech Republic Hungary | The Schaeffer's and the Smith's met up in Vienna where we stayed the first two nights . The first day was orientation with a brief tour of Vienna. | Bus Tour of Eastern Europe

Prague Castle Changing of the guards. | We left Vienna early in the morning to drive to Prague. It was interesting to cross the border in a country that was in the Soviet Block. Once in Prague, our local guide was very knowledgeable and a terrific person. | Prague, Czech Republic

 Prague ---from our hotel.

We stop in a small village for strolling and lunch. | Charge for the use of the restroom (posted in background). It's cheaper for men if they stand!

Back in Vienna | Couldn't pass of this photo of a downtown Vienna UPS carrier. | We attended a Mozart concert in a small palace theater. | Having lunch with fellow Lazy Dazers, and Texans, the Barnes . They are retired from the UN and now spend six month of each year in Austria.

The Renowned Vienna Opera House | Every single day they completely change out the stage for a different opera which takes all day. We watched them work as large trucks backed up to the stage to unload and reload which they then take to storage facilities around Vienna.

Strolling through a little village outside of Vienna where Mozart once lived. | Excursion out of Vienna.

Schonbrunn Palace | Palace built between 1696-1712 by Leopold I for his son Joseph but never finished by him. Empress Maria Theresa finally finished it as her imperial summer palace. It has 1,441 rooms and we went in many of them.

Stift Heiligenkreuz | The oldest Cistercian Abbey of the monasteries near Vienna founded in 1133 by Leopold III.

 Vienna City Hall

Budapest, Hungary Pest, on the right side of the River Danube and Buda, on the left!

We left Vienna early in the morning to drive to Budapest but we were delayed on the freeway twice. First, it again took us a while to cross the border where we watched our bus driver bribe a guard. Then, just before arriving in Budapest there was a very minor wreck on the freeway. Our bus was the first one stopped as they closed down the whole side of the freeway for a fire truck to come from Vienna on the wrong side of the freeway. There was no fire and most of the public workers just stood around like they didn't have a clue as to what to do next. We were stopped for over an hour which would have been very comical but we were missing a lot of our tour of Budapest!

Around Budapest | Chain Bridge--first bridge built to connect Buda and Pest (1836)

Monument to Hungary's heroes built for the 1896 millennium celebration. | Heroes' Square

The | Salzburg | The | Hills | Are | Alive | With | the | Sound | of | Music! | George and I decided we could not go to Austria without seeing Salzburg as the Sound of Music is "our" favorite movie. We took the train from Vienna to Salzburg and walked from the station to our hotel where we were close to all.

George found and booked our hotel online and it was perfect. It had a Mozart theme (wall murals) as Salzburg is where Mozart was born.

Sound of Music Tour | Nunnberg Abbey | Leopoldskron Castle --used as front of Van Trapp home. | Maria arrived at Van Trapp home from this street. | Replica of Gazebo from movie.

Pegasus Statue and Mirabell Gardens---where the kids danced and sang around Salzburg in their "curtain clothes. | Momdsee Cathedral ---where marriage was filmed. I'm standing on the alter where they stood! | Village of Momdsee just a few miles from Salzburg.

Saying goodbye to Salzburg! | There were so many historical buildings and statues in this gorgeous city. | Mozart spent his early childhood in the rooms upstairs.
