FC: Garry Paulsen was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. - Growing up his father was an army officer.
1: Gary acquired a taste for adventure stories at a very young age. He also never attended a school for more then 5 months.
2: In fact, as a child he ran away from home and joined a carnival! He also almost never attended high school!
3: Gary began to realize his love for writing when he was working a job in a satellite company.
4: Though he never did attend high school very much the first shot he got he left high school and immediately joined the army.
5: Soon after he left the army and married a woman named Ruth Wright Paulsen.
6: In the beginning Gary just wrote little parts of books until he finally got together a complete book he called Special War.
7: Gary was a full hearted outdoors man. He loved fishing, hunting, hiking, but most of all dog racing.
8: Gary Paulsen's love for books only grew later in life. His vocabulary, word choice, and ideas only got more thorough the more books he wrote.
9: Even other authors adore his books! He is known by many, loved by many, and looked up upon by many.
10: Gary also enjoyed renting cabins deep in the woods and living there for very long periods at a time.
11: Gary lives a simple life in the forest chopping his own wood and making his own food. He sometimes sits down and works over 18 hours on brainstorming 1 or 2 ideas!
12: Gary has always exceeded in creating exciting stories for young adult audiences. He wrote my favorite book known as Hatchet.
13: Gary made many promises to himself during his early days. One being he will never drink alcohol.
14: Gary Paulsen was the 4th most popular children's author.
15: Gary Paulsen's books are loved by many and of the millions of fans hes had, hes never not written one back.
16: A well known and my my favorite book of Gary Paulsen's is called Hatchet. This book this book is about a child named Brian who must survive in the Canadian wilderness after a terrible plane crash.
17: Another great book that was written by Gary Paulsen was called Brain's Winter. This book was about what would have happened to Brian in Hatchet is he was not rescued.
