The plan was for Mom, Dad & Karen to fly out on Friday and spend the night in Vegas, thus avoiding the early morning flight on Sat. It stormed and the flight was canceled! They were able to get booked onto a flight for the next afternoon. Cam and Boyd stayed over at Karen's to catch their early morning flight. When Ben got up and announced Uncle Cam was asleep on the couch we didn't believe him, but sure enough, they had gone to the airport, only to find their flight canceled as well, so headed back for a few more hours sleep! We all managed to get on the afternoon flight and little time from the trip was lost.
Waiting our turn | Our ride | Preparing for lift off | Is this our pilot? | This guy?? | The pilot; first day on the job! I think he's joking??!!
Cameras ready... | Approaching the canyon... | First view!! | WOW!
The little Colorado River, that's the muddy one, flows into the Colorado River. The Colorado River's emerald color is caused by the Glen Canyon dam trapping sediment.
The Battleship | Enjoying the view...
Looks like we're on the right path!
Going for a walk down into the canyon (well, not very far down, but down!) | Been there, done that, what's next?
Looking down over the lobby in the Luxor | Caesar's Palace | Caesar!? | Vegas is next!
The Bellagio The Bellagio Flower Show | Chocolate Waterfall!
 The Dam Tour
Hey, there's a ghost town, let's stop there for lunch and a look around!
Maggie's Silver Mine | I'm not sure we should be negotiating with this guy! Maybe we should just mosey along!
Back on the road heading for the Sequoia National Park... | The scenery has improved! | And it just keeps getting better...
Wow! Look where we came from! | Ummm, there is snow here! | There's getting to be quite a bit of snow... | It's dark, and rainy, and snowy, we should have moseyed a little faster! | Whew! We're here! Loosen the white knuckle grips!
We awake in the morning to a winter wonderland. Fortunately the temperature didn't match the snowfall as none of us were exactly packed for a winter storm! We enjoy a nice breakfast at the Wuksachi Lodge, where we also had a nice supper the night before.
Wow! Cam and Boyd try to maneuver their way onto a road closed due to avalanche conditions. This plan does not have mom's approval,or interest! | Boyd is this old in tree ring years.
Just look at this!! | General Sherman is estimated to be between 2,300 and 2,700 years old. Its volume of 52,000 cu. ft. makes it the largest living thing known. | Heading down the path to see what kind of trouble we can find, oops, here's a lady fallen off the path into the stream!
 Sequioa National Forest
 General Sherman towering 275' above!
We left the Sequoia forest and headed for San Francisco. At some point we decided it would be nice to see the sunset over the ocean, and the race was on. | Just in time! | We enjoyed the orchards and fields of vegetables along the roadside.
We pulled over on the roadside and made our way down to the beach to watch the sun sink away and the waves crash.
Cam and Boyd show some brotherly love as we "settle in" at the Tuscan Inn at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. | Lombard Street
The sea lions enjoying the day at Pier 39. | Crab Shack at Pier 39, chowder's on, and it's good!
Ghirardelli Chocolate Store | These streets are steep!
 San Francisco Sourdough
 CV-12 USS HORNET | Commissioned 1943 - 1970
The Captain's Chair | Naptime, where's my bunk? | Another inspection complete. | Man the guns!
The Golden Gate Bridge | Approx. 600,000 rivets in each tower. | Built in 1937. Towers 746' above the water and 500' above the roadway. Contains 83,000 tonnes of steel. | Each cable is made of 27,572 strands of wire. There are 80,000 miles of wire in the two main cables which are 36 3/8" in diameter.
Angel Island | Total suspension length is 4,200'. Total bridge length is 8,891'.
 Baker's Beach
Muir Woods | Coast redwood trees are the tallest living things. The tallest one in this forest of 800 to 1000 year old trees is 252 feet tall.
