BC: Made by your Favorite Granddaughter, Heidi

FC: Of Bonnie Ketterman

Bonnie and Glen Ketterman | Married October 1950

My favorite memory of mom is that she might burst into song at any moment. I know that my heart is stronger having grown up with the terror that this activity can create.- Dan I love that my mom is an awesome cook. Her vegetable soup, homemade cheesecake, and Jello salad were always my favorites!- Dan

The big kettle of hot chocolate when the teens from church had come out sledding. That is a nice memory.- Bill I'll be forever grateful that mom did not use the baseball bat on me after I had used it to propel the baseball through the kitchen window.- Bill Thank you, Mom, for throwing your arm across me prior to seat belts being mandatory in cars. That saved me from flying through the windshield when you hit the tree.- Bill

I love how Mom and Dad were always so open to having our house be a place where my friends and family could come almost any time and in any number. They were the same when we lived in the whippy farm house or the nice new house. This attitude of openness and sharing has impacted my life. -Dan

I liked that we would read the Christmas story and sing carols before we opened presents.- Heather I love having Thanksgiving and Christmas at your house because we never forget the reasons we are brought together in the first place.- Liz | Holidays Together

I appreciate Bonnie's prayers for all of us. Countless times through the years I have made an emergency call for prayers, knowing that we are loved and that we would be prayed for fervently. - Barb | She has been a great role model to me, and an example of how I should be with my own children, in many ways. I have found that we are never too old to learn and I have learned a lot from Mom.- Marcia

I love going to Grandma's house. She always made me feel welcome. It feels like coming home, no matter how long its been since I was there last. It especially meant a lot to me while I was at Olivet and could come "home" to grandma's any weekend I was feeling lonely.- Kirstie

I always loved going to church and hearing how much my mother in law liked me. I don't think all daughter in laws have that supportive of a mother in law! I also considered it the highest compliment when people found areas where mom and I shared common ideas and noticed it. I love you mom! -Marcia | I loved when Grandma would tuck me in at night and we would talk about Heaven. - James

 Sixty Years | Together

I love that Grandma and Grandpa were really in love. I never wondered how they felt about each other. I know Jeremy and I walked in on them kissing once and Grandpa was pinching Grandma's butt. As a kid, that was embarrassing. As an adult I am thankful that I have had such a wonderful example of what marriage should be and the knowledge that in all the years you were together that you were truly in love through them all. -Heidi

Bonnie has more friends than anyone that I know. She continues to make new ones but also has kept those from her teen years too. Everyone finds her to be a genuine, loving confidant.- Barb

Two of my most cherished family memories are saying a prayer before we all leave and singing the Doxology.- Barb I love that whenever Mom is in the kitchen you will hear her randomly burst into song. - Viv

I appreciate the countless stories she has told me about when she was a girl. She made sure we knew the great Christian people that our family has been made from. -Jeremy

Even as a little kid I remember thinking "I don't think that Grandma has ever eaten a hot meal". Everyone else at the table did for sure, but as soon as we started eating, Grandma started making trips back to the kitchen. She wanted to make sure that everyone else had a good meal with all the proper utensils, condiments, side dishes, napkins, beverages, seasonings and anything else that you could imagine. Usually all the kids were done eating before Grandma would be sitting down to take her first bite. -Brock

I love looking at pictures and watching home movies together. I also love when Grandma leads us in singing. -Heather

Family Fun | It's always fun to spend time with Grandma. Whether we are telling stories, singing hymns, or playing Yahtzee, I enjoy the time we spend together. -Kirstie

Grandma always made time in the schedule for games and being interested in anything we were doing. One of the biggest life lessons I learned from them both is that work can be fun. -Josiah | I love the time she made us batman capes! -Jeremy Definitely the batman capes! The fashion show we did was pretty awesome too. -Josiah

Grams, I've always appreciated you allowing us to live with you. I know we weren't the worst kids ever... but we weren't exactly saints. You were always constant and always someone we could count on. To this day I can call you on the phone if I am going through a hard time and we can pray about it on the phone. That has been so comforting over the past... however many years. I love having Christmas and Thanksgiving at your house because we never forget the reasons we were brought there in the first place. Reading the Bible before we open presents and saying what I'm thankful for are two traditions that will be carried on in our family. Thank you for your love and support. -Liz

I loved the time that Grandma showed us how she dances!- Liz | A great memory for me was waking up Sunday mornings to Grandma singing. -Jeremy

I have been truly blessed to know, with total confidence, that everyday, no matter whats going on, that somewhere my grandmother is praying for me. It has been a comfort to me all of my life. -Heidi

I really liked that Mom and Pal were able to come watch me at Nationals. The Special Olympics are some of my favorite memories. -Glenda

I loved how she'd always give me 5 more minutes to sleep in, and then 5 more after that, and then 5 more after that.- James

Grandma was always the very last person to sit down for a meal. She also made sure that everyone else had everything that they could possibly need before she ever took her sit. I think serving others is her love language. She shows how much she cares about us by taking care of our every need before she ever thinks of herself. -Heidi | Even as a kid I realized grandma had a lot of health problems, but only because we talked about it. I never once have heard her complain or have seen her without a smile on her face. She has a joy for life that overshadows any pain she may be in and I know that comes from her faith in the Lord. She is such a wonderful Christian example of a wife, mother, and friend. I am so blessed to be able to call her grandma.- Gretchen | Every time we came to visit, Grandma would be standing at the door waiting to hug and kiss us. She was always the first one awake and I would hear her singing hymns in the kitchen while she made breakfast for everyone. She would even buy us chocolate milk for our cereal. -Gretchen

I think the most valuable thing I learned from Grandma came in 1999. I was visiting Mom and Dad from Mount Vernon, and Grandma and Grandpa were there too so it must have been a holiday. I was telling everyone about a discussion I had at school about faith and if that alone was enough to overcome sickness or injury. I had a friend who was convinced that if you truly had the right amount of faith then God would cure any ailment you had. Grandma assured me that while she was convinced that miracles can and do happen, she was equally convinced that sickness, injury, and death did not in any way indicate a lack of faith. She said the important thing was to continue to have faith regardless of what the outcome was. God was not punishing anyone through sickness and if recovery was not to be, then God still loved you and your prayer was still answered but the answer was "no" for reasons that were not up to us to understand. That conversation happened while my Mom's Dad was suffering from brain cancer so I guess it was especially meaningful. I have been to church more times than I can count, and I have forgotten the content of probably 97% of the sermons I have listened to, but Grandma said that to me almost 12 years ago and I haven't forgotten.- Brock

The turtle video. -Liz | One million photos of her back yard.-Liz | One time she picked up a snake with her bare hands and when I shrieked in fear, she giggled.-James | When I think of Grandma I picture her in her robe, in the kitchen, singing. -Heidi | I love singing Christmas carols as a family before opening presents.- Gretchen | Grandma always breaking into song. There are several hymns that when I hear them I automatically think of her. -Liz | Singing hymns -Viv | I'm not sure why but most of mine are food related!- Heather | Roast beef after church!- James | I have loved the comfort of the guest room through the years. The dryer-warmed, fluffed pillows and the blue-flowered sheets say "we're glad you're here". - Barb | Chocolate zucchini cake, banana punch, blueberry pancakes, homemade ice cream- Heather | Homemade raspberry syrup!- Heidi

"Yahtzee!" -Rick | I loved when Grandma would yell during Yahtzee! -Shelina | I think I got my love of sunsets from mom. -Bill | "NO Jeremy you're squishing my buns!!!" -Liz | Who else loves her monkey bread?- Josiah | Grandma made the best chocolate pudding cake with chocolate chips all over the top! YUM!- Kirstie | Two things that go in combo: the always having an "open" house, and being a good cook. My friends loved to come over because they all loved her cooking.- Bill | Her chicken broccoli casserole... and meatloaf... and ham salad... and carrot Jello! -James | Her veggie soup is my favorite! -Dan | I love that Grandma is always the last to go to bed and the first to wake up so that she can make sure she takes care of everyone. -Kirstie
