FC: The Great Depression
The Great depression was likely to be the worst ever economic depression that the world has ever had. The United States was one of the nations that was hit the hardest by it.
There are many things that caused the great depression. One of them was loans. Loans are when people can borrow money from others and than repay the debt later. This caused a lot of trouble for the bank .
Another thing that caused the great depression is panic. Panic I think really caused the depression into what we know it as today. The bank was already weak as it was. But people started getting very paranoid and started taking their money and hiding it on there own. This really crippled the bank.
What really ended up sparking the great depression was the day known as "Black Tuesday" This day occurred on October 29, 1929. This was the day that the stock market completely crashed.
The great depression last around a decade starting in 1929 and ending around 1939.
Life during the depression was very hard for the vast majority of Americans. Many became so poor that they could no longer afford there houses and had to live on the streets.
Life was especially difficult for farmers that lived in the south. Many dust storms that became known as the "Dust Bowl" ravaged crops in the souther states. Making producing so much harder for them.
The countries that were hit the hardest by the depression was the United States, Norway and Germany.
Pretty much everybody was affected by the great depression. Even if you did have a job it was likely to be very very low paying. Most women at this time didn't have jobs so if the man lost his job then the family was not making any money.
After 10 very long years, the great depression was ended after reformation bills were passed to help rebuild jobs for unemployed people.
Surprisingly another thing that helped end the great depression was world war 2. In this war many men were put the army to fight. In a way I think that the war also helped bring our country together which helped recover from the depression as well.
