FC: Harvey Haywood Armbrecht
1: November 25, 1918 - February 28, 2014
2: Harvey was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1918 while his father Harvey Lee Armbrecht was overseas fighting in World War I. His father and mother Gladys had three children – Harvey, the eldest, and two sisters, Ruth and Evelyn. He spent his childhood in Runnemede, NJ where he and his sisters attended Mount Calvary Union Church. In 1936, he graduated from Audubon High School, Audubon, NJ, the same high school that sons Jim and Don would later attend. After high school, he began working at the Electric Tachometer Corporation in southwest Philadelphia, a company that made precision instrumentation primarily for naval ships. Harvey worked there until his retirement in 1982. During this time he rose from machinist apprentice to tool and die maker and assistant foreman. In 1944 he was drafted into the Army in World War II, where he served in Alaska repairing heavy equipment. Prior to being drafted, he married Martha Agnes Rhodemann of Philadelphia, who he met at a youth rally in Philadelphia. After the war they lived with Martha’s parents in Philadelphia, and their first son Harvey James (Jim) was born in 1947. In 1948 they moved into their house in Audubon, NJ where they lived for the next 62 years. Around 1950 they joined Haddon Heights Baptist Church, Haddon Heights, NJ where they remained members throughout their life. Their second son Donald William was born in 1952. In 1971 Jim married Linda Niemeyer and they had two children Cheryl and Jeffrey. In 1978 Don married Susan Fennimore and they had three children – Donald and twins Gregory and Kimberly.
3: After their retirement, Harvey and Martha worked around the home, took vacations to Florida, and visited grandchildren in Doylestown, PA and St. Louis, MO. They have three great-grandsons – Cullen born in 2007, Declan born in 2011, and Keller born in 2014. In 2010 Harvey and Martha relocated to the retirement community of Brethren Village outside of Lancaster, PA, where they spent the rest of their retirement. | Harvey and his sisters, Ruth and Evelyn.
