1: THE NETHERLANDS | 2013
2: The Netherlands is a European country, bordering Germany to the east and Belgium to the south. The Netherlands has over 16 million people on an area roughly the size of New Jersey. It's a densely populated country with it's capital of Amsterdam being just one of its most interesting cities. The small nation boasts a wealth of cultural heritage and is famous for its painters, windmills, clogs and notoriously flat lands.
5: KLM Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij KLM is the flag carrier airline of The Netherlands It is the oldest airline in the world still operating under its own original name
6: When we arrived at Schiphol Airport we were met by Tante Nia, Ome Rob, Tante Angelien and Anje. Lots of hugs, kisses tears and tulips!!
7: wanderlust (n). A strong desire or urge to wander or travel and explore the world
8: While staying in The Netherlands we rented a 2 bedroom cottage in Overberg. The cottage worked out great for us as we were close to Tante Nia and Ome Rob (could bike to their house). We found the cottage to be very clean and gezellig.
9: While in Holland we rented a BMW 318d.
10: We had a great first day in Holland. We spent the day in Oosterbeek. Kids had Dutch French Fries for the first time. We ate at Oma Oma's favorite restaurant called Gemeente Huis
11: A war memorial in Oosterbeek -The living owe it to those who no longer can speak to tell their story for them-
12: We celebrated Oma Oma's day at a Dairy Farm with the family. It was great to see and meet Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
14: A beautiful sunny day spent at a garden center with Tante Angelien and Ome Olli

16: Celebrated Koninginnedag (Queen's Day) in Holland. Also the day that Prince Willem Alexander was crowned King.
17: Jack and Larry enjoyed a dutch treat called Tompouce. Normally Tompouce is made with pink icing but for Queen's Day it is made with orange icing. | Tompouce is two layers of puff pastry filled with pastry cream. The top layer has a sweet icing. Yummy!!!
18: First time the kids are eating Kibbeling. Kibbeling is a deep fried nugget-sized chunk of cod. Great way to celebrate Koninginnedag!! | Kibbeling 6 pieces of cod 1 cup of flour 1/2 cup milk 1/2 tsp dried dill 1/4 sweet paprika A pinch of garlic salt, onion powder and mustard powder Dry the fish on both sides and cut into two inch pieces. Dust the pieces with a tablespoon of flour. Make a thick batter with the rest of the flour, milk, spices, salt and pepper. Add a tablespoon of milk if it is too thick. Cook fish in oil at 375 degrees until golden brown

22: We spent a day at the Openluchtmuseum. The museum takes you on a journey through the last 200 years. The museum has farmyards, farmhouses, cottages and businesses, a farmer's cafe and shops.
26: Jack and Nia spent the day with Tante Nia (Boom Boom) and Ome Rob (Ome Op) They had a great time at the park. We could tell they had fun because they were very dirty when we picked them up!!
27: We enjoyed our time at Tante Angelien's and Ome Olli's. The kids always asked Tante Angelien for M&M's and always seemed to be hungry as soon as we got to their home.
28: Doorwerth Castle is a medieval castle situated on the river Rhine near the city of Arnhem | Marina, is an old friend of Oma's
29: Watching the boats go through the locks on the Rhine River
30: For my 38th birthday Tante Nia and Ome Rob surprised us with a train ride, we had no clue where we were going....It was the first time for the kids on a train.
31: The big surprise for my birthday was a day at Keukenhof. It is the world's largest flower garden!!
32: My Jack...how your feet have grown
34: You'll be his first kiss, his first love, his first friend. You are his mama. He is your little boy.
36: Only an Aunt can give hugs like a mother, keep secrets like a sister, and share love like a friend.
38: If I had a flower for every time you made me smile and laugh I'd have a garden to walk in forever
42: Thinking Jack has had enough of looking at flowers
43: Time to head home after a great day xoxo
44: More surprise birthday celebrations when we got back to our cottage!!
46: Spent the day at the Zuiderzee Museum. The museum was completed in 1983. It depicts how people used to live and work around the Zuiderzee between 1880-1930.
52: Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride
54: The Hoge Veluwe National Park is unique thanks to its combination of art, nature and architecture. The park consists of 5000 hectares of woodland, heathland, drift sands and peat bogs. We enjoyed using the "white bikes" and touring the park on the great bike paths.
55: We had a good time having a picnic in Oma Oma's favorite spot.
56: Being a family means you are part of something wonderful it means you will love and be loved for the rest of your life. No matter what.
57: Family is not an important thing, its everything
