FC: Iceland October 15 to October 21, 2011 | Iceland 2011
We flew out of Seattle October 15, 2011, for our 7 hour flight to Iceland.
We arrived at 5:20 Sunday morning. After eating a wonderful breakfast at our hotel, we took off to explore downtown Reykjavik.
Of course, we had to find a place to get a good coffee and a pastry.
There was a great pond with swans and ducks.
Te & Kaffi best coffee in Iceland! | The best hot dog in the world is located in this tiny shop in Reykjavik. | Sweet onions, deep fried onions, 3 sauces, and a great quality hot dog- We ate here breakfast, lunch, and dinner one day.
We were able to ride the elevator up to the bell tower for a great view.
This was the beginning of our Golden Circle tour. The views were AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!
 The wind direction changed!
Strokkur Geyser (gayzure) The geysers were spectacular!
 Gullfoss Water Falls
It was terribly cold and windy, and the trail was treacherous.
Notice the small rope and posts used for "safety".
Blue Lagoon | The air was freezing, but the water was warm. It was like a bathtub carved out of a salt block. We sat right by the hot water inlet to keep warm.
Our visit to the Blue Lagoon ended our day tour of the Golden Circle.
It was a little windy! | The closest we came to wildlife was in the gift shop.
Unless you count sheep, goats.... | or horses.
Can you tell we thought this church was beautiful?
We toured the Reykjanes Peninsula and crossed the bridge connecting the two continents.
We took a tour bus to the south coast and to the glacier. There are many of these large rocks that are hollow. The farmers use them to shelter their animals. | We learned that "foss" means waterfall in Icelandic.
Skogar museum | Seljalandsfoss Waterfall | Skogaafoss Waterfall
Hiking on the glacier was the highlight of our trip.
This couple got engaged at the top of the glacier. | August, our guide.
