BC: We'll be back Jamaica!!
Itinerary: Leave Saskatoon Jan.12 at 7:30 am. Arrive Montego Bay 6:15 pm Who went: Lisa & Aaron Walters, Lisa & Carey Friesen Destination: Breezes Rio Bueno, Trelawny, Jamaica Return Itinerary: Leave Montego Bay Jan. 19 at 7:15 pm. Arrive Saskatoon 12:15 am.
Our room for the week was beach front. It had an amazing view of the ocean as well as a deck that we could sit outside and relax. We have never had such a beautiful view on vacation before. We were so close to everything. We reserved the seats in front of our buildings and that is where we spent most of our day. Lisa & Carey were in the building next to us. The resort itself was very well maintained and clean. It was so awesome to wake up each morning to step out on the deck and see the sun shining, blue sky & the amazing blue ocean!
This was our room in the far top corner with the turret. | Jamaica
The various buildings on the resort. There was one main buffet, one Italian eatery, a lunch cafe, 2 ala carte restaurants, one French & one Japanese.
On Friday, the 14th the resort put on a street party. They had this Rasta man in the courtyard so of course we all had to put our faces in for a picture. The man in the corner was the man that Lisa bought some jewellery from. He was quite the character. He was even knitting a hat one day! Yeah Man!!
Street Party All day the staff were preparing for this event. They washed the street down & had all the tables set up hours before it was due to start. The effort they put into this was incredible. All the food they had prepared filled many many tables! | The food was very good all week. They had very talented cooks & bakers. We definitely didn't go hungry!
Some of the unique plants and flowers on the resort.
There was only one pool on the resort. We didn't spend much time at it and we preferred the beach. Fresh flowers were placed on the arch prior to a wedding. We had the best viewing spot for the 3 weddings that took place while we were there. Our balcony overlooked the "wedding spot". It was fun to observe & participate from our prime spot!
The Pool, The swim-up bar & The hot tub
The main buffet overlooked the pool. This was our favorite table and often sat here.
A la carte Restaurants | Some of the drinks we had were called Miami Vice, Hummingbirds and the one in the corner was Giovanni's special. He never would tell us what was in it but it was very refreshing & light.
Souvenirs & their creators | We were going with a coconut theme for the gifts for the kids. This guy had painted sport teams on coconuts. I looked and there he was making a RoughRider one so we knew we needed to get one. He painted it just for us. I came & took progress pictures - what talent! For the girls we decided to get them coconut purses.
This man had hand painted shells with all sorts of pictures on them. We decided to get mom & dad one with their names on it as a thank you gift for looking after the kids for us. He quickly personalized it for us in a matter of minutes.
The Games we Played!! On the one rainy afternoon we had we pulled out the Blokus game. One worker at the buffet was very intrigued by it and a couple of times came over grabbed a piece & tried to figure out where to put it. At the end of the week Lisa & Carey left it for her. Hopefully she will be able to play it & figure out & enjoy it. It is a fun game. Our game of choice for the week was Phase 10 Masters. We had a prime playing spot, where the Nolitours desk/table was just off the front lobby, it was well lit, warm & had 4 chairs. This was our nightly routine, go for supper, then park ourselves at our spot & played the game. One night we even did a double game! Playing Phase 10 at home around our kitchen table just won't be as appealing anymore!
Head Shots!! | One thing that is a tradition for Aaron & I and that is self portrait head shots. Nearly every vacation or place we go, we end up taking them. What can I say?? it is a tradition! We had to get Lisa & Carey to play along as well!
"The Toe Incident" Aaron went to get the chairs all ready for some sun and while he was moving one of the chairs he cut open his toe on something sharp. We saw him hobbling down the sidewalk towards us and behind him was a trail of blood in the sand! We went to the nurses station because it was a deep cut and there was a lot of blood. Fortunately he didn't need stitches, but I think if he was at home and this happened he would have gotten some. However, the nurse gave him a tetanus shot, cleaned it off with sea water and put some steri-strips on it & sent us on our way with some extra bandages. He was to rest and keep it dry for 48 hours. At least it wasn't a kidney stone! We were glad it wasn't anything more serious!
The Main Buffet This is where we ate most of our meals. The coffee was good, although I was a bit disappointed there was no latte bar like we had in Cuba. The food was tasty and always had a good variety of choices
 Fun in the Sun
Meet Walt... On our 3rd day we went out to our beach seats and we saw that overnight a coconut had dropped out of the palm tree. We decided to keep it. A few hours later, we decided to name him, a few minutes after that we decided he needed a face...Walt was born. It was then decided that Walt should be a mascot and with his help we managed to entertain ourselves quite easily with this coconut. The next few pages will chronicle his journey. We were sad to leave him behind but brought home with us memories of one special coconut
We tried to give him some hair but it wouldn't stay on. The following day we did find a friend for Walt, we named him Charlie. We didn't get as attached to him though.
Our Balcony Enjoying a coffee on the balcony before heading to breakfast. From our balcony Walt got to see his first wedding and even got his picture taken with the bride!
Massages on the Beach Aaron & I have always wanted to get massages outside on the beach. So when the spa ladies came along the beach one day we decided to sign up. It was an experience that we won't soon forget! We felt totally exposed and I am sure at times we were! This was on Jan.18. The ladies doing the massages were very good. It was a total body massage and they used a lot of oil. Even Walt had to come & get his picture with us. I debated about including these pictures in this book as they are not the most flattering...I did think Walt deserved to have this picture in the book!
Enjoying another great meal at the Reggae Cafe.
Sailing Away!! Aaron & went on this small catamaran out off the shore of the resort. It was a very neat to see the island in that way. It was nice & calm too. I was a bit nervous and held on real tight but was very glad that I did it. It was a a lot of fun. It was actually smoother than the glass bottom boat.
The Glass Bottom Boat | We didn't see many fish out in the ocean but it was a nice day for a boat ride!
What NOT to wear... in Jamaica or anywhere! | We could not get over what some of these woman thought they could wear while on vacation. Clothing that barely covered their bodies and outfits that would not even look good on an 18 year old! What were they thinking?? Notice the green arm bands on these ladies...they belonged to the au natural side of the resort, guess that kind of explains the outfits!
To tone down the awfulness of the other page here is a scenic picture...to remind ourselves that there were many beautiful things to see on the resort as well! This is actually the au natural side of the resort. Thankfully no one was swimming when I took this picture or going for a walk !!
Our Last day!! As they say...all good things must come to and end and here were are on our last day of our Jamaican holiday. Notice Aaron's sad face in the top left picture. We did our usual routine, had breakfast and then sat in the sun until around 11, we needed to check out of our room at noon. We went for lunch and then we walked around and sat in the shade so we didn't get hot & sweaty! It was another hot day and we were so sad to have it be over but also looked forward to home & our own beds and to see the kids.
Good bye WALT!! We thought it only fitting that on our last day we would send Walt out into the ocean to try to find his way home...in tribute to the character he was named after from the show Lost. He had his last pictures taken out on the wedding pier then Carey threw him out into the ocean....only to be washed back up to shore! We had a good laugh especially when someone walking along the beach picked him up & set him beside the palm tree & took pictures of him! We had hoped that someone else would adopt him and take care of him after we left seeing that our attempt to send him floating in the ocean failed. Thanks for the memories Walt!! You are now a legend!
Packing Up! The last day is always bittersweet. Happy to be going home but sad to be leaving.
This was our first time in Jamaica and I am sure that we will be back again. We found out a few months after we got home that this resort was going to be closed as it was up for sale and no one purchased it. That made us sad because we had hoped to visit here again. Thankfully there are a lot of other resorts for us to stay at. On a scale of 1 to 10 this was definitely a 10! we had a great time with Lisa & Carey & hope we can go on a vacation with them again
Farewell to Jamaica!! Thanks for a wonderful holiday Breezes Rio Bueno. We had a great time! The weather was awesome, so sunny and hot. The company was super & we have some great memories to share with the Friesens. We hope this can be the first of many trips together. The bartender at the quiet bar made a special drink for us when we came to say goodbye to him.
The kids & the coconut souvenirs! | Home Sweet Home!!
