2: James Madison was the Father of the Constitution" for his role in drafting the Constitution of the United States.

3: Over the the course of a life he was dedicated to public service, was elected to four terms in the House of Representatives, completed eight years as secretary of state, and served two terms as president. He was given Chief Credit in his formation of the Virginia Plan which was notable for its role in setting the overall agenda for debate in the Constitutional Convention and, in particular, for setting forth the idea of population-weighted representation in the proposed national legislature.

4: He became the youngest person ever elected to the Continental Congress.

5: After the Constitution was completed he, Hamilton, and John Jay wrote the Federalist Papers. | These essays brilliantly explained the goals and theory behind the organization of the new national government. Madison also led the successful ratification effort—part of which involved besting anti-ratification leader Patrick Henry in debate—in Virginia. | After the Constitution was completed he, Hamilton, and John Jay wrote the Federalist Papers.

6: He guided the successful negotiations for the Louisiana Purchase. It demanded that Spain recognize U.S. ownership of the coastal territory between New Orleans and Florida, and supported the need for the United States to deal forcefully with the North African Barbary pirates.The Louisiana Purchase encompassed all or part of 14 current U.S. states and two Canadian provinces.

7: Madison Cottage; where Madison died, later became known at Madison Square Garden is an important historical landmark located in New York City. Madison Square Gardens gave rise to a popular form of track cycle racing named after the arena, Madison Racing, which remains an Olympic Sport today.

8: He advocated the rechartering of the National Bank and created the Bill of Rights in which Americans gained all of their rights and freedom.

9: He was given the credit for making James Madison University. He also helped Thomas Jefferson in founding the University of Virginia.
