 20 Week Ultrasound | July 29, 2010
We can not wait to meet you! We got to see you for the first time at our 20 week ultrasound and it all of a sudden became apparent that this was REAL! You were laying in there calmly and then all of a sudden you stretched your neck out and I saw Dad's eyes light up when it clicked with him that it wasn't just a picture he was seeing but an actually baby; HIS baby! Surprise! We chose not to find out your gender while we were in the Ultrasound room but instead had the nurse write it down on a card and conceal it in an envelope. We brought that card to a baker and he baked a cake with either blue or pink in the middle and white frosting on the outside. We had about 30 friends over and cut into the cake all together to reveal that it was a BOY! However, an interesting thing was that the second I found out we were pregnant I just KNEW you were a boy. Mom's intuition I guess. | Your Name: For a long time we could not decide on your name. We did not agree on ANYTHING! We had letters on the fridge that we would rearrange every few days to a new name option. Either mom loved it and dad didn't or the other way around. Finally, (after you were 2 weeks overdue) mom said "What about Job" and dad replied "I LOVE that name". We both love the story of Job and how even under extreme hardship he was faithful to the Lord. We pray the same over you.
I love being pregnant! I love this new role that the Lord has given me of being a mother! Even though our little guys isn't here yet, he is a HUGE part of our lives! We have been very busy learning about everything from birth to breastfeeding to baby care. I never realized how many decisions there are to make and how many new things there are to think about! It is a great new adventure. We are currently taking natural birthing classes (The Bradley Method), buying cloth diapers, learning all about breastfeeding, going to a Spiritual Parenting class at church, decorating the babies room (hand making hanging lamps, baskets, an elephant mobile, etc) | Pregnancy | October 18, 2010
We were so excited to put all of our natural birth preparation to good use but you waited and waited and waited to come! You were 2 weeks overdue and our midwife said we had to come in to "get things moving". We took a lot of time settling into the hospital because we knew it would be a long process before you came. 2 minutes after the midwife walked in she found out you had flipped around and would have to be taken out via c-section the next day. We had a pretty hard time with it because it wasn't the way we had envisioned it. But we were excited to meet you either way. | at the hospital...
We suited up and got ready for surgery. I hated the c-section itself. I was numb up to my neck and throwing up but dad came in to sooth my nerves. Then the greatest thing happened... You came into the world!
 You're here! | 12.27.2010 . 12:30pm . 8 lbs . 22 in
That first cry!!! Oh, that was the greatest sound I had ever heard! You came out a little purple but a few seconds later you let out a glorious cry and I instantly had tears of joy! "That's our son, that's our son!" Dad and I said when we heard it. We loved you from the beginning!
Getting to know Mom & Dad
There are no words to express the love we had for you right away! We were so excited! Dad was beaming and showing you off to everyone who walked in the room! Everyone commented on: -Your full, thick, dark head of hair -Your HUGE feet and long fingers -How much you looked like dad - How alert you were right away - How you were the "cutest baby they'd ever seen"!
 Settling in at home
We were so glad to finally come home from the being in the hospital for a few days. The first few weeks of your life are a blur of little sleep, feeding issues, and just watching you and getting to know you! Unique things we noticed about you early on: - You are STRONG! You lifted your head right away! - You don't like to face in when being held. - You want to observe everything! You won't concentrate on eating, you just want to look around.
 The first few weeks
1 month old! We had a blast with you the first month. You had so many people come to meet you! Even though I (mom) would spend up to 9 hours feeding you everyday, I never really minded. I just LOVED sitting and holding you all day. Running my fingers through your hair, watching you while you slept, and We finally started to work out a schedule to make it easier for me to put you down for long naps and get things done or take a nap myself. Dad reassured me a lot that taking care of you was my only job. When I didn't get the dishes done, or trash or something else...he'd jokingly say "Did the baby get burned today?" No. "Did the baby get lost today?" No. "Did the baby fall off a cliff today?" No. "Then you did a GREAT job!"
2 months old! Life has started to normalize for us now that you are 2 months old. Feeding has gotten a little easier thanks to dad's encouragement to “keep trying”. You've been sleeping longer at night and started smiling this month (right at 8 weeks)! | You like to put your head upside down and cry if we try to bring it up | We are loving your smile and your new little giggle that's coming out!
"I want to be one of your toys" he said when I took this picture | You are a strong kid! You are holding your head up like a champ! | And people from church have brought us meals every other day for these first 6 weeks! So all of that combine has made this last few weeks a lot easier (not that you were ever really hard). I am really starting to enjoy seeing your personality come out! I can already tell you are a fun little guy!
 3 months old!
4 month old! -4m 1w- rolled over by yourself -4m 1w- First two teeth came in. We were in Seattle when these both happened.
That first cry!!! Oh, t We loved you from the beginning!
5 month old! - 5.5m - sitting unassisted You started getting a little fussy this month because you REALLY want to move but you haven't quite figured it out yet.
6 months old! | Milestones - You sprouted a few more teeth. You have 8 now. - You're on the move! You were crawling by 6 and a half months. - The first time you pulled yourself up to stand was when you were in the bathtub. I had turned my head for no more than a few seconds and when I looked back, you were standing up with a huge smile on your face. - You started eating solid food! At first you didn't like it but within a few weeks you were a pro. - You're a good sleeper! Sleeping about 11-12 hours at night and taking 2 - 1.5h naps...usually
Adventuring with dad Taylor's Falls, MN
7 months old! You are an independent kid! This month you refused all food except for what you could feed yourself. We had to get creative with finger foods that a 7 month old could eat. Your favorites that we've found are avacados and rice cakes. I often have to feed you rice cakes just to get you interested in the other food that’s on your plate. You've always slept with a blanket over your face but lately you have been stuffing as much blanket in your mouth as possible and make an “arfing” noise to fall asleep. Often I come in while your sleeping and see a huge wad of blanket still in your mouth.
At the lake! Sheehan Cabin - 4th of July weekend
 On the Boat
8 months old! | -Walking around holding onto things - First step 9/23/11 - we were at grandma and grandpa White’s house. Dad and I were kind of jokingly telling you to walk from Dad to me but we knew that it was still probably going to be a while until you took your first step. Then you (not so gracefully) moved one foot forward and then fell. Dad and I instantly looked at each other, smiled, and said “did we just see his first step?!”
9 months old! You are keeping us busy this month! Not only do you have the same curiosity you've always had but now you are REALLY moving! You are getting more and more confident on your feet and can get into things before I can catch you.
-Went from sitting to standing without holding onto anything for the first time 10/6/11 -”Talk” a lot! All sorts of things come out of your mouth, it’s so fun to hear! -Favorite thing to do lately is rub your arm over your mouth while “talking” which makes a really funny noise! We laugh at you every time which makes you do it more! - You are SO happy when you are with people! Whenever you have a lot to look at or when people are talking to you, you are delighted and wave your arms wildly! It is the days we spend at home, just you and mom, that you get cranky and restless. - You LOVE being outside. If there is ever a time when you are cranky inside I just take you outside, put you in the grass and you are content. I wonder if you will love the outdoors when you are older? -You are really starting to walk! You’ve walked up to 10’ before falling. You are getting more and more confident every day!
