S: Justin Bryce Mathews - Cub Scouts - November 2007 to November 2010
FC: Justin Mathews Cub Scout Memories 2007-2010
Justin is conducting the Cub Scout Flag ceremony, 11-19-08. He received his Wolf Badge tonight, and is being presented with his new Bear neckerchief and slide. He leaves Bro.Ewell and the Wolves, and joins Bro. Devenberg and the Bears. He didn't even stick his mom with his Wolf pin!
April 27-29, 2009 Meadows Stake Cub Scout Day Camp- The Castaway Cubs! Justin was in Pack 248 and their 'ship' was called "Victory Bound". It was a great experience for all the boys!
Bro. Devenberg and Sis. ? chapperoned these active little guys! The boys were really excited to make these foam 'swords'. It got even more exciting when the adult leaders told the boys that they had planned a sword fight! These guys loved every minute of it! They yelled their battle cries till they were hoarse!
Cub Scout Day Camp continues with the boys making and decorating kites. The real tricky part was getting them to fly! Justin was sure glad that his mom and dad were there and were able to help out with the day camp. His dad even got a kite to fly! Probably the only one...
The K-9 cops brought their dogs & showed how they work together! | The boys played tennis with rackets that they made out of panty hose and hangers! | Justin's mom and dad... again.
Justin tried to make his very own tool chest! All the boys were supposed to make something out of wood and nails. | It was hot, and Justin was getting tired, so he found his mom to lean against for a few minutes. | The boys made the neatest little sling shots made out of clothespins, tape, and some rubber bands. | All the boys had to think of something creative and then try and carve it out of soap. It's harder than it looks!
The next thing for the boys to do was to make paper boats and blow them down a rain gutter by blowing on them. They did pretty good!
Cub Scout Day Camps are awesome! Last, but not least, the boys shot BB guns and bows and arrows. They ended the day with an awesome treasure hunt!
Pack 248 | Bear Scout Hike June 2009 Brother Devenberg - Bear Leader | Anyone got a compass? | Fearless Leader! | Are we done yet?? | Brother Devenberg Rocks!
July 2009 Pack Meeting | Cub Master Brother Simkins | Cub Scout Inspection. Attention!! | What a great smile this kid has! Love the thumbs up!
Since Justin was receiving his Bear badge, Bro. Simkins painted him like an indian and had him use a sling shot to shoot a rock through his Bear poster. He broke the slingshot on his first try! Luckily, a spare was on hand and he made a hole... Success!
October 2009 Hundreds of Cub Scouts and volunteers met at the Las Vegas Wash to plant trees. This is a picture of what we looked like when we got there... | And this is the picture of what we looked like when we were done - FILTHY DIRTY!!
OCTOBER 2009 Justin is overly excited. Can you tell? His pack is preparing for the Pinewood Derby coming up. The boys get lots of help from Bro. Devenberg, Sister Carilli, and lots of parents. | Sister Clifford Sister ? Sister Sneed | Sanding the cars smooth. | Brother Devenberg- Bear Leader
The boys turned out lots of great looking cars! This yellow one is the one that Justin and his dad made. Justin is standing by the track that was used for the race. It sure is a long track...
January 2010 Pack Meeting There was an Arrow of Light Ceremony with Brother Castaneda dressed up like an indian. He was so funny!
Brother Castaneda jumped off the stage, screaming an indian war cry - and fell so hard he ripped his pants! It was so funny! He did such a great job of getting the boys attention...
Blue & Gold Dinner February 2010 Justin's mom helped to set up the decorations and serve the food. Yummy!
August 2010 Pack Meeting Justin earned his Webelos Badge and tore a hole in the paper the first time he used the sling shot. Great job, Justin! He performed a funny skit with a group of boys and then they presented their CubMaster, Brother Simkins, with a token to put on his Scout Staff.
It's not the best picture, but Justin is trying to pin his Webelos pin on his mom. Why is that always so difficult to do for boys? No one really knows... Look at how handsome Justin is. His hair is cut short, he's wearing the correct neckerchief and slide, & his uniform is neat and clean. He looks fantastic!
July 2010 In order for Justin to receive his 'Leave No Trace' award, he had to do some community service. He chose to clean up Children's Memorial Park off of Gowan and Rainbow. It was a lot of work, but he did a great job & had a good attitude!
September 2010 Justin receives his Arrow of Light and crosses over into Boy Scouts! He worked so hard for this. Not only did he earn that, but he also earned all 20 Webelos pins. He's the first boy in his Pack 248 to do that. Great job, Justin!
